About Me

CURRENT MISSION

finish my first book, finish my thesis, start my second book

ABOUT ME

I'm about to graduate as a professional reader (student of English Literature), and starting out as a professional writer. I'm also a translator on the side.

I put that on hold to go to India to learn Hindi at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan. If you are thinking about coming to this institution feel free to contact me.

I'm still trying to adapt to living in my home once again. I'll be starting a new job/scholarship as a writer soon, so let's see how that plays out...

PHILOSOPHY

Learn.

(Also: I'm really into preserving the planet and saving water, reducing and recycling, etc).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Because my couch is not my own, I cannot offer it freely. However, I have hanged out with CSers and showed them around the city--always a great experience!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've taken a surfer out for drinks, and in 2011 I had my first true experience by surfing in Prague.

I've surfed with Indian men. A little bit scary at first, but it turned out to be a great experience. I met my boyfriend when he hosted me for one night--which turned into a week-long adventure

In India I also met other CSers, and back home I have taken people out for tours of the city.

Interests

"Nothing human is alien to me", they say.
I'm into stories--short stories, novels, movies, gossip, people's lives: both telling them getting them told to me. My boyfriend says that I never shut up, and that sounds about right.

Oh, and I love cooking (especially baking).

Music, Movies, and Books

I read mostly literature in English written in the Caribbean, Africa, and India. I also have a soft spot in my heart for Tolkien and Harry Potter. My thesis is on Shakespeare's Macbeth, so there you go.

Music: Blur, Belle and Sebastian, Kings of Convenience, Los Planetas..."indie" stuff mostly. Which I have also heard described as "alternative pop".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snow. When you grow up in a warm country snow is the biggest surprise.

Getting my wallet back after it was pick-pocketed at India's Republic Day Parade.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to practice my French and get started on German, Russian, and Hindi.

I can teach Spanish or English and clarify grammar rules in either language.
I'm an amazing cook and baker, and I'll teach you my recipes or just cook for you. Feeding people makes me happy.
I'm also full of interesting trivia which I'll share readily.
I can also teach tango or basic salsa.

But, quite frankly, what my hosts have most liked about me is my conversation.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer interesting conversations and baked goods.

If nothing else, I am a tidy guest who doesn't mind helping cleaning up--washing dishes, putting things away, etc.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, San Marino, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In
