About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to steer clear of walls

ABOUT ME

I'm well-traveled but homey, driven but restless, sweet but snappish, clever but naive, quiet but intense, stubborn but understanding, and so on. If people think I'm serious, it's just because they don't get my sense of humour. That includes me.

I'm from Montreal, an anglophone Quebecoise with an Austrian passport and an American green card. I'm trying my luck at studenthood once again, after a year and a half frolicking in Europe.

PHILOSOPHY

The basic essence of the world, from the human standpoint, is irrational. It's not nearly as bad as it sounds.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed couches in Europe for 5 months. In Croatia, I hosted lots of people, mostly last summer. I'm trying to tone it down now, and use cs more like a spontaneous source of fun.(i.e. coffee/drinks preferred)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It saved my life and opened my world. But everyone has a different idea about how cs should work, and I think the important thing is to be open to other people's opinions about it.

Interests

Above all I'm a language geek. Favorite game: Scrabble. I challenge you.

I also love portraiture, and have been drawing portraits on and off for many years. Favorite artist: Thomas Cole. (I know he's not a portraitist, but hey)

I'm into philosophy and cosmology. Favorite philosopher: Camus. Favorite consellation: Orion.

I like wine. Favorite wine: Californian anything.

I love sitting in the sun. Favorite sun: the closest one.

I like to read. I have a secret stash of Stephen King books at home. Favorite book: The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford.

I like to walk. I can walk, and walk, and walk. Beware though that I cannot talk, and talk, and talk. I'm not a talker, but I can listen pretty well. If you're interesting.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I go through phases. Some artists I've liked (in rough chronological order): Paul Simon, Johnny Clegg, the Cranberries, Crash Test Dummies, BNL, Manu Chao, Sarah McLachlan, Vivaldi, Cat Power, Amy Winehouse, Basement Jaxx, Beduk, Hercules & Love Affair, Thievery Corporation, CocoRosie, Devendra Banhart, some electronic stuff, most 90's stuff.

Movies and books: Anything witty, weird, nerdy or psychological.

I like choppy, clever writing styles - no matter how deep or corny the material is. That includes Hemingway, Stephen King, Nietzsche and Michael Crichton.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- backpacking for 4 months from Paris to Istanbul
- watching the northern lights while lying in a field in New York state
- going swimming in the middle of a cold night in the forests of Ontario, Canada
- Johnny Clegg concert in Boston

visited 22 states (9.77%)
