About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I LIVE 45 KMS AWAY FROM BUENOS AIRES DOWNTOWN, UNFORTUNATELY. IT MEANS TRAVELLING 3HOURS TO BA, AND 3HOURS BACK HOME.

ABOUT ME

My name -Alaciel- means Wings of the Sky. It sort of discribes me! My mind is always flying, creating. My education did the rest! From English Literature Professor, to Educational Sciences, I started getting involved in UN issues. Never worked for UN though, but had the opportunity to travel to distant places.
I'd rather drive my car than walk. It helps me go places, and people who know me say "Alaciel speaks with the stones, but the worst part of it is that stones speak to her too". I'm convinced that every single event, every single person I meet, makes a difference in my life and I hope the same happens to the people that meet me. The day that I change that attitude, I would be dead alive!
I'm married and have 3 great kids, very different from each other: one is the bohemian, they were born in 1978, 1982 and 1994.

PHILOSOPHY

MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY? I'd rather state it in words that have meaning for me even though they're not mine "to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
to establish conditions under which justice and respect [...] can be maintained, and
to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom"
WHY DO I LIVE MY LIFE? There must be a purpose for me to be here, and every day I find a new answer to that question!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My son was only 15 when I became part of CS that´s why I signed in as a family. Offering my family, my home and my time is how I can participate.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hate every minute of "stared" hotel, I wanted to lead the life of the local people but of course, I couldn't. There were 3 trips in which friends invited us to leave the hotel and stay with them and it made all the difference. And once a couple from France came to Arg in their LR and as it broke down we invited them home. They were 20 unforgettable days!
In my country we usually go camping but discovered the advantages of hostels. That is how we organized our trip to Egypt. In a hostel we met a young guy, who made the contact with a brother and sister travelling around and wanted to come to Cyprus. Having a spare room, I was more than delighted to have them as part of my family, and showing them around, while sharing with them what I learnt about this island. We spent a most delightful time. It was them -Anni and Peter- who told me about CS. So -unkowningly- my family had acted as "couch"! Now that I know there is a systematized organization, well...here we are!

Music, Movies, and Books

-Music: I listen to different music according to my state of mind! From every country I visit I bring music: folk and pop. Music is one of the most important expressions of our inner self, as individuals or cultural groups.

-Movies: from comedies to documentaries, whatever brings part of the world into my life! And leaves a message!

-Books: as an English Literature Professor, the list would be infinite. When writing, the author wants to share something with the reader, and I am always eager to find what that is. Obviously, I always take a very psichological approach when reading, vices of the profession! I LOVE WRITING

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

AMAZING THINGS DONE:
-Flying planes, when I'm phobic! haha
-Flying a baloon in Capadoccia (ditto)
-Riding a camel when I'm scared of horses
-Taking a fox, an anaconda and a baby crocodile among other strange animals in my hands, when I'm afraid of spiders.
-Eating larva, scorpions, crocodile, ostrich, or whatever I'm served... I don't care!
-Sleeping in the Impenetrable in a swamp, when our van was trapped in the middle of nothing. (that's only for corageous people, hahaha)
-Delivering my first public speech in UNHQNY, when I had never spoken in public before!
-Other
AMAZING THINGS SEEN
-Terracota Army in Xian, China
-Forbidden City and China Wall
-Capadoccia
-Life led my Arg Native Ethnic groups (wichis and tobas) who are on the verge of extintion (we try to go there twice a year to help, we lived with them to learn their real needs)
-Tah Mahal, India
-Shakespeare's home and the reconstruction of "The Globe"(imagine what that means for an Eng Lit Prof)
-Having a glimpse at Varosha and the Green Line in Cyprus.
-Abu Simbel and all the temples of Upper Egypt
-Abu Sir (Giza was too touristic)
-Others

Teach, Learn, Share

You can't divide teaching for learning, sorry to tell you! Even when I am in front of a class, I sometimes wonder if I'm learning more than what I'm teaching.
The history and geography of the place I live. Oh, of course I'm good at teaching English and Spanish (as languages or literature), but that's no merit...it's my profession! haha
I HATE COOKING, but if the "surfer" helps me, I can prepare typical Argentinean food! I expect my host to help with the cost of food (I hate to say this) because in Argentina everything is terribly expensive for us.
