About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be creative, imaginative, wacky if you want to be

ABOUT ME

We are 3 friends who hosted surfers for years and now have gone our separate ways but still share the profile! Right now I (Josh) am traveling through Israel then South East Asia and then to Switzerland! I like.... everything... I like to listen and I like to do crazy things, but I live for just about every environment.

--------------
We're three guys- 2 Jews and a Hindu. We live for opportunity- we hike, we bike, we act, occasionally historical reenact, volunteer, go out to clubs, hold up signs offering free hugs, organize No Pants! Subway Rides, Write movie and restaurant reviews and bake pies.

We're idealists and philosophers, dreamers and realists, politicians and partiers. We're more than a short description can express, but we'll make sure that your experience is the best.

PHILOSOPHY

People are inherently good and respond based on the connections and feelings the situation and you create for them. If I can make a group of strangers feel comfortable with one another, we will all be willing to do anything (within the bounds of our moral compass).

Games that require equal participation build trust quicker than almost anything. But really deep conversation trumps that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Update Dec 2012-June 2013: To potential hosters - I've hosted over 75 people over the last three years, attended four couch crashes and a burning couch, and organized a 150-person pillow fight for the Philadelphia couch crash. This is my first extended time as a surfer. I've seen so many incredible people and am really looking forward to meeting you from the other side.

Update 8/13/10: For the last few months, we've had couchsurfers over practically non-stop. Our house has become more like a party hostel.

Update 4/27/10: We've hosted several people, went hitchhiking through PA staying at couchsurfers places, create urban playground events like flash freezes and dances, and we're trying to get more active with the local couchsurfing community.

We strongly believe in the importance of community and trust. As long as we have a home to offer, it is open to all other adventurers and story-tellers. When we leave our town, we hope others will be as generous to us as we were to them. We are part of the community, and proud to strengthen ties.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Update 4/27/10: Our best couchsurfing stories are best saved for in-person conversation. But hitchhiking through PA for spring break and staying over at couchsurfers houses was one of the best weeks of our lives. 8-bit techno raves, amazing people, meeting my twin in Pittsburgh, hitching to falling waters outside Pittsburgh and getting someone going back into Pittsburgh to dedicate his day to making our adventure his adventure and making it come true. Rooftop dinner with couchsurfers in Mumbai, India.Hosting: Midnight pretzel bike runs, MGMT and many other concert experiences, dancing through fountains, bar hopping, zombie walks, philosophical and cultural discussion, travelling stories, mural tours, west philly "Fresh Prince" tours, conversations with druggies, open mics, jam circles, and many more fun times.

Interests

Josh: Real connection and conversation, adrenaline, hiking and fitness, stepping outside comfort zone (becoming harder and harder), flirting, playing trumpet, cooking... what are you interested in? Teach me!

Music, Movies, and Books

Pasted from our constitution:

Rule #8: Music is old school. Auto-tune is out, but we say yay to the beat, the rock, the Motown, the Funk, the Soul, the Flapper’s Jazz, and the best Comedy Rock in town, in the country and in the world (we even have some Israeli and Indian tunes for ya!)
Clause A: Rap and Electronica with permission

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Organized a 600-person freeze at 30th street station that got national news as a counter argument to violent youth mobs.

Took a life-size Sarah Palin Cutout the night of the vice-presidential debates onto the subway and a drunk guy made out with her and felt her up.

Teach, Learn, Share
