ABOUT ME

Ach, what can I say of myself without being pretentious? I'm a guy. I'm nice. I read a damn lot. Sometimes, I also write. I'm passionate about things, "coolness" is certainly not my style. I have my own opinions on arts, philosophy, history, politics, and coconuts. I'd love to say "I'm a simple person", but I'm not. Getting better at it, though. I'm very proud of my mustache. I hate Pokemon. There you go.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think CS is a great place to know people and just not landing from outer space on a city knowing nobody, being an alien. It seems a great way to know people and really grasp the soul of a place, not just being a passer-by. Hopefully, I would be able to do so for others.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So long, I was hosted by two of the most gorgeous and funny girls Uruguay has to offer, at Montevideo, 2010. One of them has became a good friend of mine, we write regularly and hosted me several times. Amazing experience, I'm a 100% CS believer. On 2012 I was hosted at Porto da Lagoa (Floripa) by Andrea and Nely, also an amazing experience.

So far I hosted two lovable American, Lauren and Riley, on summer 2011, and give refuge to a one night emergency crash-landing Swedish, Amanda, on 2012, and a non-couchsurfer 50 years-old Britsh artist. I've also showed around the city to a lot of people. All great experiences.

I currently have no couch to offer, sadly, but I will be happy to tour anyone who is interested in knowing the soul of Buenos Aires, my beloved city. I have done so already, with also great results. As soon as I get some room, I'll host again, that's for sure.

Interests

My main interests are literature, modern philosophy and fine arts. That said, I have a wide variety of interests, that can range from exobiology to matchbox collecting. Yes. Other than that, Buenos Aires is an immense and completely insane city I never cease to explore.

Music, Movies, and Books

Good Lord, where I start...

CINEMA: Well, i'm well into classic European cinema of directors like Einsestein, Fritz Lang, Pudovkin, Buñuel, Murnau, Godard, Truffaut, Bergman, Kaurismaki, Terry Gilliam, Tarkovski; as well as modern freaks like the crazy Kusturica, twisted Lynch, arid Lars von Trier, still Wong Kar Wai, gross Alex de la Iglesia and, well, who doesn't, Tarantino. Argentine cinema, as well, of course. I'm into any American cinema that it's not a Hollywood cheeseburguer (or a cheeseburguer so massive, cheesy and glorious it is in another category, say, Terminator 2 or Iron Man).

MUSIC: I like mostly rock music, specially the kind of music that creates soundscapes, like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead and so on. It took me a time, but I learned to love The Beatles. Eighties' pop music is a weakness I must confess, as well as Disco music, specially for dancing. Not quite into metal or punk. Girls that rock: Tori Amos, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Jane Birkin. I love Argentine rock, which is incredibly wide and has a great variety of styles (another thing for the "share" part). I also love Tango, though I don't dance it. Shame on me, I don't know how to play any instrument. I dig Bossa Nova.

BOOKS: well, I'm a professor and an antique books specialist. That means that I live surrounded by books, books, books, more books. I can't even start to talk about this. Better that way. I also love comics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

and, erm... I... beat my granma in a Backgammon match once! Yeah! And she's very good at Backgammon. Really.

(the audience starts to seem quite unthrilled)

Well, now seriously, I haven't done anything amazing, in the sense of curing cancer or inventing a heavier-than-air craft. I've done some amazing things for my beloved ones, as well as they did for me, but that kind of things are not to be told lightly. I've seen amazing things, but as long as we live in a universe of glorious and almost perfect order, I can say that pretty much everything is amazing just for its mere existance (yes, remember? nostalgic-christian-aristotelic-etc...)

Teach, Learn, Share

Having a degree and experience as a professor, I can most certainly TEACH Spanish even to a stone, provided it's fluent in English or has a Beginner+ level in Spanish.

In the SHARE part, well, I have some 1500+ books in my shelves and I would love to introduce anyone in the cultural world of Buenos Aires, just for the sake of it. I also love introducing people to the indie rock scene of BA.

On the LEARN part, I have only one thing to say: surprise me.

Hope i'm not getting too philosophical, but I think every single social interaction is a teach+learn+share action, actually.
