About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to learn more about everything and do something good with it

ABOUT ME

I'm a medical student living back where I grew up. I can barely wait to get back out West. For the time being, I am studying a lot and happy that time is flying by. I have a wide range of interests. I don't fit into any political party and don't see any reason to believe in any religious doctrine. I think the universe is unfuckingbelievable, but I believe it. Right now I'm cooking up some honey glazed salmon with onions, and it's going to be delicious. I can't wait. I get impatient sometimes.

PHILOSOPHY

We're all idiots, some more than others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host, I surf, I spread the word to those who I feel should be a part of it, and I started a permaculture group so we could all network and learn from each other by e- and, hopefully, face-to-face communication.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's been great, meeting excellent examples of the human species as they pass through my home, and finding new friends and warm hospitality in my travels.

Interests

food, home agriculture, reading, gardening, history, independent news media, potlucks, bicycles, bicycling, wrenching, motorcycles, growing cooking & eating great food, nutrition, medicine, botanical medicine, health, global health, global social justice, sustainable design, wholesome agriculture, fermented foods, science, appropriate technology, economics, liberation movements, Palestine, everything about food, biochemistry, wildcrafting, traveling, discussing current affairs and coming disasters and searching for optimism, smoothies, plants, animals, permaculture, good music, attempting to play the saw and cello, hypnotism, beautiful architecture, vernacular architecture... almost everything, edible or otherwise

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading medical books to study for my first board exam.

Recently read Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell

Excellent Books:
"The One Straw Revolution" Masanobu Fukuoka
"Escape from Pretoria" Tim Jenkin
"Homage to Catalonia" George Orwell
"Tropical Nature" by Miyata and Forsyth
"The Humanure Handbook" Joseph Jenkins

I have many books about the subjects listed in the "interests" section, in addition to various so-called fiction authors such as Hesse and Vonnegut, among others.

I love old Japanese movies, particularly Kurosawa films. I like lots of other movies, too.

I like all kinds of music, so long as it's quality.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was out for a walk in the bush in Swaziland and encountered a mother rhino and her...cub? What's a baby rhino called? Anyway, they approached to within 5 meters and we crouched motionless waiting for her to leave the area, preferably not in our direction. A little scary but definitely worth it.

Teach, Learn, Share

See "interests." I know some about each of those things, some more than others. I always want to learn more about all of those things, and more about other things, too. I'm happy to share what I know and be taught what you know.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Lesotho, Mexico, South Africa, Swaziland, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
