About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find the Path (whether to englightenment, least resistence, etc.,..still figuring out)

ABOUT ME

Pretty casual guy who has fallen in love with island life. Pretty happy in St. Thomas, VI, until another island comes along and steals me away.

PHILOSOPHY

I guess this can count for my personal philosophy...it is, after all, tattooed on my arm.

And this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about. I can understand why a system built on a pattern must try to destroy the free mind, for it is the one thing which can by inspection destroy such a system. Surely I can understand this, and I hate it and I will fight against it to preserve the one thing that separates us from the uncreative beasts. If the glory can be killed, we are lost.

John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had some really wonderful experiences hosting CouchSurfers here in the Virgin Islands. I first got involved because I thought I needed something to spur my own desire to do more traveling. I believed that hearing the stories of travelers of a similar mindset might trigger that wanderlust which I always seem to disregard for personal or professional (ich!) reasons. I was right. I really appreciate the stories and experiences that my visitors have shared. I might have given them a bed for a night or two, but I received much more than that in exchange.

Interests

I play some acoustic guitar (poorly) and ukelele (poorly but excitedly). I enjoy reading whenever I can and typically have one fiction and one non-fiction book going at all times. I have some of the greatest friends that a guy could want and, if you're lucky, you just might get to meet them. When all of the above is impossible, I would prefer to spend the rest of my time on a boat -- my favorite part about living in the islands.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite authors are probably Cormac McCarthy, John Steinbeck, and Earnest Hemingway. I also love easy 'beach' stories like Carl Hiassen.

Music tastes trend toward Alt-Folk-Country like Todd Snider and Robert Earl Keen, 90's rock like Tragically Hip and U2, and a sampling of everything else.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving down to the Caribbean - somewhere over the Atlantic. I realized that the suitcase and guitar in the hold made up everything that I had in the world. I love that feeling of being totally in the present and treading lightly over the globe - no attachments and nothing to hold you back.

Countries I’ve Visited

Aruba, Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Virgin Islands, British

Countries I’ve Lived In

Puerto Rico, United States, Virgin Islands, U.S.
