About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Looking for fun, good times and new cultures

ABOUT ME

Wicked sense of humour and I don't suffer fools gladly. I love the thrill of travelling and meeting people but in getting there I often prefer my own company. Very friendly and I'm super keen to show people all the wonderful things about South Africa - it's a fabulous country. I make friends easily and I keep in contact with them too (admittedly somewhat sporadically at times) I love seeing new places, doing new things and getting out there and especially, I like seeing things from a local's perspective. I'm a keen horse rider and love to read - I prefer the outdoors to sitting at home in front of the TV. Also cycle, jog and walk a lot. I love long distance driving and good, vibrant music irrespective of genre. And I love to dance...... especially when very happy!

PHILOSOPHY

Be positive: smile - it opens doors. I live life to the full (as much as possible) and believe I'm here to learn valuable lessons (like patience)but still, every now and then it's great to have some quiet time to centre myself, take a break, catch up on sleep and basically climb off the mad rollercoaster that is my adrenalin filled lifestyle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have hosted a few people and had great experiences, have been somewhat off the radar of late but keen to get back into it. Haven't surfed myself but keen to try it out sometime.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted - had a great time and already met many people through the CS Cape Town group. A HUGE fan of the concept

Interests

Horseriding, Travel (obviously), reading, Skiing, good music, meeting new people, excellent wine (both red and white as long as it's dry), dancing (have done ballet, modern, irish, highland, Scottish country dancing, langarm - currently learning salsa, latin, ballroom and how to waltz gracefully :-) )Travelling through the bush (think safari) very amateur photography, soaking up new cultures, and great food.

Music, Movies, and Books

Good, lively rock, pop, folk, jazz music (no specifics - no favourites and very poor knowledge of who an artist is and linking them to a song or album...have a somewhat eclectic mix of songs and albums that I like on my iPod)Books....adventure novels, science novels, historica novels, novel novels.........

Books - HUGE fan of Stieg Larsson - the Lisbeth Salander series, brilliant writing. Love the Lord of the Rings books and movies. Strangely enough, I enjoyed Vikram Seth's 'A suitable boy' once I'd got into it - it painted a most magical portrait of India. I like escapist literature with historical, geographical or political facts woven into the rich fabric of a really good novel (must have a great plot)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm, lots to choose from. Possibly my favourite is a frogging safari in the African bush in the night surrounded by wild animals..... splashing about with a headlamp, wellies and a glass jar in a muddy puddle while being inundated with the chirruping calls and croaks of frogs approaching the puddle from the bush - was amazing. We were so exposed to attack from any hungry predator (although we had armed rangers with us) and yet we felt so safe.... it was an amazing experience mucking about looking for various different frog breeds while the soft African night settled itself in pitch black velvety darkness around us. Would do it again like a shot!

Teach, Learn, Share

Know a fair bit about wine and have plenty of great suggestions for food and wine pairing places here in the Winelands of South AFrica - the world's longest wine route. Also able to teach horse riding from scratch.

Any additions to my dancing knowledge will be much appreciated, oh and I LOVE finding out about new foods and traditional(very tasty) dishes from anywhere else in the world. Recipes welcome!

Countries I’ve Visited

Botswana, Cameroon, France, Germany, Italy, Mozambique, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe
