About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined CS in 2010 as it was recommended to me as a community to meet people when I went to study in Vienna for a few months. I really loved the CS community there back then and went on to host a few people as well as shown people around. I lived in a shared house at the time when I lived in Seattle, so I didn't really get to host much. I continued being active in the CS community in London once I moved. A majority of the events were centered around bars and pubs, and being under 21, I wasn't able to do much of that in the US, so it was nice to be able to return to that in the UK.

After leaving the US due to failing to immigrate there, I was active on-and-off, largely because I was focused on dealing with my own immigration issues, which ended up being so significant that I spoke about it at one of the main stages in the annual Hacker's Congress in Prague. I hosted and shown around a lot of people though while living in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, the northernmost permanently inhabited town in the world. Since then, I've largely just been going to CS events and reaching out to CSers as I travel the globe.

Music, Movies, and Books

I used to be a bit of an elitist, but I'm far from it now. My music tastes are quite eclectic and eccentric, ranging from stuff like The Beatles and Elvis to smaller indie artists like Peter Mulvey, as well as some classic country songs. Not the biggest fan of rap or hip hop, but I can certainly appreciate the art form and there are a handful of them that I would truly enjoy listening to - just don't expect much knowledge around it from me!

I've watched a few films but I'm not really into it as they tend to be too long for me these days. If I do watch films, most lean towards comedy, which would be the same for my TV show preferences.

For books I largely read nonfiction and love history. However, I do quite enjoy the works of Philip Pullman.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Meeting people from around the globe! It's really amazing how I'm able to meet people from countries (and in countries) I only dreamed about when I was a child as well as keep those relationships spanning decades now. I feel that the people I meet really shape my experience wherever I am.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am more than willing to share stories and lessons from the experiences I've had in my life as well as various tricks and skills. Whether they're tips for travelling, cooking, playing an instrument, or anything else, I'll always be happy to share!
