About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find out where I want to spend the rest of my life, starting with an exploratory voyage to the West Coast!

ABOUT ME

Looking for a hiking, camping, craft beer-drinkin, vinyl collectin' ukulele enthusiast? Look no further!

During the summer after my freshmen year of college, I took off on a Greyhound bus trip around the country. It was my first time doing any real traveling, and it was intoxicating. Since then, I've averaged a trip a year, and if I'd could do more, I would!

When I'm not "on the road" I'm a Residence Hall Director at Stony Brook University, where I work to educate students in the Community Service Living Learning Center about social justice and civic engagement. I'm a ukulele enthusiast, a photography buff, an aspiring writer, and a lover of craft beer! As a couch surfer, you can expect a gracious host, a grateful guest, and an overall fun guy to hang around!

PHILOSOPHY

I constantly push my boundaries and put myself in the way of adventure anyway I can. There can be no regrets; you have to throw yourself into life with every ounce of energy you have, and to heck with the consequences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I traveled in Paris, I used couch-surfing for the second half of my trip because I wasn't getting any person-to-person interaction in my hostel, and for me that's half the reason why I travel to begin with. I've used it in Cairo, Egypt as well!

Sadly I can't host surfers because of the nature of my living arrangements (I live in a residence hall with students). That's okay though; you wouldn't want to spend much time in Long Island anyway!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed unofficially for years, but in terms of this website, I stayed on three different Couch-Surfing couches while I was in Paris, from March 17th-22nd, 2010. I met some great people, and really had a blast! Then, in early 2012, I surfed a couch in Cairo, Egypt, with the esteemed Drew Brammer (stand up guy!). Additionally, I've hosted four people on two occasions, the first group (3) for one night, the next (1) for five.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Ben Folds, The New Pornographers, and Josh Ritter are my top three, but I also love Ben Kweller, Bishop Allen, Belle and Sebastian, the Shins, the Beatles, the Killers, Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit and a fairly endless laundry list of indie and classic rock.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was a Tall-Ship sailor for three summers. I helped sail a 113 ft gaff-rigged schooner around the Hudson River (Spring) and the Long Island Sound (Summer). It was the most life-changing experience I've ever had, and I'm eternally grateful for having had it.
