About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to think globally, act locally.
ABOUT ME
I'm an adventurer. I love travel, and new experiences. I have lived most of my life as an ex-pat, and feel most comfortable when I am outside of the borders of my home country exploring. I love meeting new people and learning about all the idiosyncrasies of the place I'm visiting. I enjoy travel over tourism, as I love to really get in touch with real life. Sightseeing is fun, but it's the daily life experiences of another culture that I tend to seek out. I think that's one of the reasons I'm so interested in couch surfing!
PHILOSOPHY
Life is an adventure, it's important to make the most of every opportunity you get. Travel is the most efficient education one can receive.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'd love to host people in my nook of Japan, but so far the CS requests haven't worked out due to schedule conflicts. I'm on my 3rd year here, so am more settled in. I am definitely looking forward to sharing my town with guests!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted a few people, and stayed on some friends' couches, but never quite officially arranged through the CS network. I'd like to change that!
Interests
I love adventure, especially exciting extreme sports! I also love anything to do with the water, surfing, scuba, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, swimming, bodyboarding, windsurfing... you name it - I love it.
I'm also interested in movies, books, and heated discussions of current events. I'm a person whose hobby is having hobbies, so between baking, cooking, sewing, painting, crafting and general sport enjoying, I have never had the time for boredom.

Music, Movies, and Books
Too many to count! I'm a literature major, so books are a way of life for me. I love reading, and my favourite author is Douglas Coupland. His writing and acerbic style is the perfect prescription for anyone suffering an existential postmodern crisis.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Paragliding over a snow-capped Mt. Fuji : a gentle and relaxing adventure. Completely peaceful, yet adrenaline-filled nonetheless.
Swimming with sea turtles, dolphins, manta rays, whale sharks and giant southern stingray's in the Persian Gulf before the 2nd Iraq war. The perfection of this experience is both beautiful, and heartbreaking to me, because the area is now closed off indefinitely, and is no longer under protection from overfishing, oil spills and once-illegal tanker anchor dropping.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you to surf (like the water variety!) if you're around in good weather/ season. My town is a beachside surf-mecca, so it's one of the best ways to get to know and meet the locals and local culture of this corner of Japan!
