About Me

I love tea and languages.
I'm kind of weird? (translation=cool)
Currently studying linguistics at UC Davis.
A little pet-crazy — I have a budgie, pigeon, bearded dragon, cat, and two goldfish.

I'd like to go back to Iceland.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far I've only surfed, not hosted. Hopefully one day I'll be able to give back.

My couchsurfing experience has been an absolute delight. The people and places are fantastic and I've collected so many lovey memories.

Surfed:
Itai Barami - Frankfurt, Germany, July 2011
Leo Vermeulen - Amsterdam, Netherlands, July 2011
Zbigniew and Ola - London, England, July 2011
Ben - Cornwall, England, July 2011

Music, Movies, and Books

Okay, I'll admit it: Björk is #1 for me. She's probably the reason I originally got interested in Icelandic. (Listen to 'Vökuró' if you haven't.)
I also love Samaris and Moses Hightower, as far as Icelandic music goes. (Also Vök and Mammút. SO MANY.)
I don't even know where start with all the music I like. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Childish Gambino, M.I.A., Graham Coxon, and Solange. I don't know.

My favourite movies are the fifth element and master and commander. But I have a lot of favourite movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some favourite experiences, in kind of a weird stream-of-consciousness type list:

Kayaking with whales in Alaska, walking in the gardens at the top of Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel, waking up in a castle, exploring mediaeval ruins in Fougères, seeing bald eagles on the way to work, playing accordion in a hazy meadow, playing pirate songs while walking along the beach at Sanibel island, swimming with dolphins (even though I can't really swim... haha), driving in a pinzgauer from Colorado to Alaska, climbing the steps to Basilique du Sacré-Cœur for the first time, gondola ride through the Venetian canals in the fog, hot chocolate in the morning at Zion national park, climbing ancient Mayan temples at Chichen Itza, having farm-fresh cider in an English garden in Cornwall near cows with a good friend, eating Surinamese lamb roti in Amsterdam (life changing, I tell you), playing accordion for a fire show in -20c weather while dressed as a mime, seeing Björk perform Biophilia live in the intimate hollywood palladium, hiking and camping at Reed Lakes Alaska during a downpour, waking up on the eastern coast of Iceland to the most beautiful day ever, collecting sheeps' wool caught in the bushes on the side of a cliff in the early morning while everyone else is sleeping, taking a dip in an awesome (and free) geothermal pool complete with fishes...

So many of these incredible memories I have my parents to thank for. Thank you for taking me on so many adventures when I was little. I love you.
