About Me

Update: Jan 1, 2024 - I am away visiting family until Monday, January 8th, and am unable to host until then.

I am a teacher and a personal trainer. I have gained so much knowledge and experience from working with so many wonderful students throughout my career. I love what I do. Check out my website to get an idea of what I do. (remember, workouts are ALWAYS free for my surfing guests :) www.philanthrofit.com

I am also a firm believer that we all need to let our inner child out as often as possible. Too often we keep it bottled up. I don't - I like to laugh, be silly, have fun, and enjoy every moment life has to offer.

***This is important to me - I wholeheartedly believe in the concept of paying it forward. I will do everything I can to make you feel at home if you are my guest. You will be treated with kindness, courtesy, and respect. I want you to make the most of your experience here, and I will do whatever I can to make that happen. All I ask for in return is that you pass the kindness along. Make someone else happy. And then ask them to pass it along. If that makes sense to you, we will get along very well, and you'll have a wonderful stay.

If you have time during your visit, you are welcome to join for any group workouts I'm running during your visit.

As much as I would love to accommodate all of the requests I get (up to 20 per day) it's just not possible. I hope you understand that I will always accept a personal request BEFORE a copy/pasted message. You certainly don't have to detail every item in my profile, but just demonstrate that you made some effort to at least glance at it.

PHILOSOPHY

Do good things. Be kind to people and animals. Stay healthy. Enjoy life. That's pretty much it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is something special about not just having people sleep on your couch, but truly welcoming someone into your home and sharing stories, experiences, and memories.

I never had the money to travel when I was a student. Couchsurfing would have been very helpful in letting me see parts of the world I have not yet had a chance to visit. I know there are people on Couchsurfing in the same position I was in; therefore, if I can help you, I am happy to do it.

Interests

Running, fitness, being compassionate towards animals, not eating any animal products at all, movies, marathons, triathlons, travel, hiking, camping, mountain biking, sports, exercise, reading, cooking, meeting new people, adventure racing, triathlons, and so on...

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies. Some favorites are Million Dollar Baby, Airplane, Something About Mary, Die Hard, Old School, Without Limits, Rudy, and so many more.

I like almost all music. In terms of books, I prefer (auto)biographies, usually of inspirational athletes. But I'm always up for a great work of fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the awesome privilege of guiding high school students around the country for 6 weeks every summer. It is the highlight of my year, every year. A great learning experience for the kids, and for me.

I also get to teach and coach some of the most amazing students in the world. While I feel like I am a very good teacher, I can only hope that my students learn as much from me as I learn from them every day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a certified personal trainer with multiple degrees in the field of fitness and education. I would be more than happy to put you through a workout (for free of course) while you're visiting.

You just can't be mad at me when you are too sore to tour the city the next day :)

I also train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and would be happy to share some lessons or learn from you if you practice.

And I'm always happy to discuss animal rights.

I need/want to experience more of the world, even if it just means bringing other cultures into my home.
