About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn new things, be generous to others, and have fun.

ABOUT ME

I'm kind of nerdy, but I also love the outdoors. I am pretty easy going, and I try to always live life from a place of kindness and generosity.

PHILOSOPHY

Well, I've never really believed in a separate being/personality in the sky that watches down on us, but I recognize unity in everything and everyone, whether on a physical, spiritual, or metaphysical level. As Carl Sagan put it, "the cosmos is also within us. We're made of star-stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." My goal is to live every moment from a place of love, compassion, and understanding toward everything I encounter. I never try to push my beliefs on others, and I don't like when others (atheists and devouts alike) try to force their beliefs on me. Everyone has the right to find and choose their own path.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd like to host, and show people around when I can. I may have need to surf, on occasion.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was living with a roommate in college, we hosted a couple of couch surfers. They seemed pretty cool, and I liked the idea, so I signed up to host myself after moving away. I have surfed once myself, and had a great time.

Interests

I enjoy being active, challenging my mind, and learning new things.

I have been fascinated by science and technology since I was little, and I started writing software on my Dad's Commodore 64 computer when I was 10 years old. Naturally, I'm a software engineer, now, and I greatly enjoy the creative process of designing something, building it, and seeing it work.

Outside of work and computers, I enjoy reading, playing ultimate frisbee, hiking, and bicycling (to name a few). In the future, I really want to try paragliding. I like having deep, intellectual, and philosophical conversations about all kinds of topics. I love learning new things and sharing the cool and fascinating things I learn with others.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I usually like to read fantasy, sci-fi, and mystery, but I enjoy anything that's well written and engaging.

TV/Radio: I enjoy Nova, and I've been listening to a lot of Radiolab and Car Talk. I also like Firefly, Castle, Once Upon a Time, and Dexter, among others.

Music: I like pretty much everything, genre-wise (my Pandora station is a giant hodge-podge), though there are obviously some songs I like more then others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love seeing small moments of kindness; times when a person goes above and beyond for another, without any expectation of reciprocation.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I'm really good at computer programming, and have helped several other people with assignments and whatnot over the years. I'm also pretty good at math, but you might have to give me some time to refresh myself on the topic in question. I can also show you the basics of throwing a Frisbee.
