About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I ain't mission you at all

ABOUT ME

I struggle with the distinction between a sharp wit and a sharp tongue, as if I had one or the other. I enjoy laughing, irresponsibility and pretending to be creative. I haven't knowingly eaten breakfast since 1978, I believe Margaret Thatcher is not of this earth and I have such tolerant friends I'm on the second go round with most of them.

PHILOSOPHY

Ironic nihilism.

I cherish the great friends I have met and kept, I'm flattered by better people than myself who tolerate my transparent scorn.

I enjoy a good conversation, I really enjoy a good conversation, but fail to understand why certain ideas are considered private property by those who refuse to have them questioned and consequently assume skepticism is a personal attack. You can't hold an idea until you've tried not to drop it.

Oh, and I can't abide intolerance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting, social meets, local jam sessions...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted a bit. Been real lucky mostly. No Mansons, just Marilyns.

Interests

Not being bored. I only dance when I discover gold. I like a drink but I don't like drunks (including myself). Yup, I'm a musician, how did you guess? I also spend way too much time watching football.

Music, Movies, and Books

Welles, Peckinpah, Zucker. Sunrise, Three Comrades, Life of Brian, Planet of the Apes.

MacCarthy, Amis, Gibbon, Hemingway (his early, funny stuff). Catch 22, The Age of Reason, Less Than Zero, Without Feathers. Always looking for a good read, and very happy to exchange with visitors.

Anyone who can really play. Ford, Monk, Satriani, Kossoff, C-Diddy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw the sunrise from Mount Sinai once. I saw Bon Scott sing with AC/DC. I lived in a van at college. I was the house guitar player on the Orient Express. I was in Bosnia for 20 minutes during the war. I know a guy knows the King of Norway (HE says).

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I can help you with avoiding work, show you a couple of books you might like, a bar or two to read them in. I know one or two authentic blues licks on guitar. I will probably explain why things like democracy and maths and capitalism contain tautologies but not convince you. I like hearing a funny story for a funny story. I am very keen to learn anything at all about the world but find it difficult to absorb stuff quickly. I would be grateful to receive the inspiration of people whom I can admire but who do not ask to be admired. I do not cook - I'm a heater.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Macedonia, Netherlands, Palestine, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
