About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To raise our new baby! Sorry everyone but we just had our second child in May 2019 and are overwhelmed right now with bodily fluids and lack of sleep. We won't be able to host until our home is not pierced by loud cries in the middle of the night. You can still contact us about info on Seattle or traveling though!!

ABOUT ME

As of September 2015, we have a new place in White Center, just south of Seattle! It's close to the airport and easyish public transport downtown.

We are middle school teachers who lived in Douala, Cameroon for a couple of years then took a school year off to get married and then travel through south Asia and the Middle East into Eastern Europe for our honeymoon! Now we work teaching in a public middle school in SeaTac, Washington.

PHILOSOPHY

Its a small world when you live large.

Live to travel. Travel to live.

The journey is the destination.

YOU'RE COMING WITH!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Evan: As a former CS nomadic ambassador I try my best to uphold the CS spirit wherever I travel. I've attended numerous meetings in SE Asia, and have organized gatherings in Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Singapore, Vietnam, Sacramento and plenty in Seattle! I plan to continue to surf where I can, host when its possible, and bring people together in cities where the surfers are there but may not have networked with each other yet.

I tell EVERYONE about this site. I think my friends have tired from me telling random people who we meet about couchsurfing and how incredible it is for independent travelers. I've convinced quite a few to join up and I will continue to get people involved in this great social project!

Lisa: My experience couchsurfing has been over the last few years living and traveling with my husband, Evan. Together we've hosted, surfed with and met fantastic CSers and I can't wait for more!

Music, Movies, and Books

Evan: My favorite book used to be The Odyssey but I LOVE Shantaram by Greggory David Roberts. Read it!

I also loved The Alchemist, The Kite Runner, Mountains Beyond Mountains, Three Cups of Tea, Angels of Russia, Into the Wild, Atonement, Snow Falling on Cedars, Half of a Yellow Sun and more! Anything by Graham Greene or Jhumpa Lahiri is worth reading!

Lisa: As an English teacher I love reading all books! But my favorite author is Haruki Murakami.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took a canoe up the Niger river from Mopti to Timbuktu, Mali.
Hitchhiked from Mexico to Panama
Sailed a 40 ft catamaran from Puerto Rico to Florida (before losing its mast in a storm)
Trekked the Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit in Nepal
Sat on a holy crocodile in Burkina Faso

Teach, Learn, Share

Well we are perpetual students of languages and cultures all around us.

And of course we're also teachers of English, humanities and science.
