About Me

**NOTICE** Please do not sent requests from the middle of June onward, Cécile and I are moving back to her parents for a month (July) and out of our place in Paris before heading to Japan and all points east in early August.

CURRENT MISSION

Build a business that runs at least somewhat without me.

ABOUT ME

I strive to make exploration a priority in my life. People from distant lands with different perspectives energize and rejuvenate me. Discovering Couchsurfing is one of best things to ever happen to me and has changed my life in some very big ways.

PHILOSOPHY

I want to be able to demonstrate to myself at the end of each day I've accomplished something, however small it may be.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed a bunch of times and have been to a bunch of meetups or parties in the Philly area and around the US. I'm now able to host as my current roommates have warmed up to the idea. I don't have a lot but I'll share anyway.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a stellar time staying with Dave in Scotland and traveling around with others. Right when I got off the plane and arrived at his flat he quickly took me to climb one of the most famous places in Edinburgh. I huffed and puffed my way up Arthur's Seat with no sleep for the last 36 hours! What a breathtaking introduction to the city.

I had a great few days with Daniel and his excellent pals in Wichita during my bike trip. Don't ever speak ill of Kansas in front of me!

I stayed with some Brazilians in Easton, PA very close to home on a small bike overnight and really enjoyed learning from them.

I co-hosted a gal from New Zealand who was in the States track racing and training. This got me interested in NZ and I plan to bike tour there.

I spent a few weeks hanging out with a fantastic Italian dude who was finishing his Masters here in Bethlehem at Lehigh. Learned so much about a culture I knew almost nothing about.

I meet many kind French, German and Australian people routinely when surfing or hosting.

The CS community has exposed me to a great diversity of people and ideas.

Interests

Physical pursuits include: Cycling/bike touring, running, swimming, hiking and the occasional indoor rock climbing/bouldering session (I've managed to diminish my fear of heights somewhat over the years but am still a poor climber).

Bike touring is really my number 1 interest and favorite means of experiencing new places. I have grand plans to tour in NZ, Scotland, Iceland, Western and Eastern Europe.

I listen to podcasts about design, business and the humanities. These include Radio Lab, 99% Invisible and Tropical MBA.

I'm more of a board game guy instead of a "go to a club until 3am" guy. If you like Settlers of Catan or Go we can play : )

Music, Movies, and Books

I grew up on punk rock but ultimately like whatever sounds appealing and try not to get hung up on genres. I like seeing music in small, intimate settings. No stadium rock for me please.

Books: Letters from a Stoic by Seneca, Vagabonding by Rolf Potts, If this is a man/ the truce by Primo Levy, anything by Murakami or Hemingway. I'm enjoy reading lots of things on my old Kindle - perfect for travel. I don't watch too many movies but enjoy a good flick with pals every so often.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the beautiful sort of desolation the highlands of Scotland have to offer.

Rode ~4600 miles across the United States with my own 2 legs powering an old touring bike. Seeing how people live all over this nation.

During a 2 month trip in Europe I spent only $1,759 including everything (flights, lodging, food)

Worked on Megayachts for half a year.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, United States
