ABOUT ME

Hi. My name is Dan. People call me Dan. You are a person, so you can call me Dan.

The one thing I love more than anything is cinema. I am not a religious person, but if cinema became a religion I would get out of bed early on a Sunday for it every week! There's something lovely about the cinema, it's a ritual of sorts. Finding your seat, watching the trailers, that brief moment before the movie starts when the lights go down and everything goes quiet. I love the cinema.

Some people would probably think that going to the cinema is not the best way to make friends with somebody. Nobody wants to sit in silence with a stranger for 2 hours, right? What could you possibly learn about somebody that way?

Well, you could find out if the person is a cinema-talker for a start. The type of person that enjoys talking during a movie. Strike 1. I just missed a bit of vital dialogue! Thanks a lot "friend."

Or maybe this would-be friend is the type to noisily open a packet of popcorn during the most emotional scene of a movie. Strike 2. I was about to cry I was so caught up, then all I heard was rustling!

Perhaps this wonderful person is the type to drink 6 litres of water before a 3 hour movie, then 30 minutes into it thinks "damn, I need to get up to use the toilet." Then another 30 minutes after that "oh bugger, I need to go again!" Again and again. Strike 3. No friendship for you!

I know, I'm harsh. But I love the cinema...

(I'm joking. I don't judge people based on how they act at the cinema. What type of crazy person would do that? It'd be totally wrong and evil.........)

PHILOSOPHY

I don't really have a personal philosophy I stick to. I guess I just live my life one small period at a time. I don't tend to plan years in the future. What happens with my life happens. I am not ambitious and am not really driven towards permanent goals. All my goals are temporary.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie buff! I will watch any movie once, even if it's guaranteed to be absolute rubbish.

Some of my favourites include: City of God, Singin' In The Rain, Festen, When Harry Met Sally, Great Expectations, Etre Et Avoir, Touching The Void, Chungking Express, The Lives of Others, Wall-E.

I often listen to one song non-stop for days at a time if it really grabs my attention. I enjoy short raps sung by Ludacris on other people's songs, but not long raps sung solely by Ludacris on his own albums.

My favourite bands are The Beatles, Belle and Sebastian and Beck. This brings me onto my (loose) theory that most great bands have a name beginning with the letter 'B'. Other good B musicians include: Badly Drawn Boy, Beach Boys, Ben Folds, Blondie, Bob Dylan, Blur and Black Sabbath. I'm sure there's more.

I'm a big fan of George Orwell books, he was the quintessential English intellectual. I prefer books that make me think and also speak to me in some way. A couple of favourites are Notes from the Underground, The Beach, Of Mice and Men and The Conquest of Happiness.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Shot an AK47 in Ukraine...I'm not really a gun person but...come on...it's an AK47 you've got to!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you how to:
-Lucid dream (a dream which you control.)
-Speak Geordie slang (a Geordie is a person from Newcastle.)
-Bake fruit English scones (I'm not joking...I'm English)
-Make a good cup of tea (still not joking, I really am English.)
-Watch a football game.
-Eat a chicken (basically you just tear it apart and eat it, some people use a knife and fork though, WTF?!)

I'd like to learn how to:
- Surf
- Karate chop a concrete block into two
- Impress women by playing an instrument or by reciting poetry.
