About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Figure out life and have fun while doing it!

ABOUT ME

Hi, we're the Essarys! We are both musicians and teach band at middle schools in the area. I play French horn and Josh plays trombone. We love music, watching movies, and sometimes we exercise together. We love to travel but unfortunately don't get to very often. We are roller coaster freaks! We've also been skydiving and have our scuba certification, and we LOVE exploring under the waves. :) Our most recent adventure arrived in March 2013 and is named Andy. He has turned our lives upside down but we love it and love him so much!

PHILOSOPHY

I think that God created all of us, and that he loves us and wants us to live our lives to the fullest and most extreme. I want to show God's love to others, and I also want to have a BLAST doing all the crazy stuff He's put here for us to do! Like skydiving!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are ready to host other travelers in our house and in our community, as well as just get together with other CSers to have a good time. We are interested in gaining new life experiences and, in turn, would like to help others do the same.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have met some great friends though CS! Our local group has gotten together a few times and from that blossomed some other events and get-togethers with other CS'ers, and now we do cool stuff together whenever possible! It is a wonderful thing! We've been able to host a few people, and we were able to surf with people during our trip to Europe. It was magnificent and we made so many new friends!

Interests

Music, movies, roller coasters, travel, reading, scuba diving. We have a 36-gallon fish tank and a 60-gallon tank, and enjoy learning about our fish! We also like to play games (video and other types) and we rock at Guitar Hero. I like to do jigsaw puzzles but usually don't stay focused long enough to finish them. Josh likes anything related to technology- he is the techno-guru around our house. He is also the cook!
Update: since the birth of our child, we no longer have time for most of these things. I'm sure you can understand.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: ANYTHING! Except usually not rap or hip-hop. Shostakovich and Dvorak are my favorite composers, but I also like Debussy and most anything of the Romantic Era. I also like Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Norah Jones, Jason Mraz, Eddie Vedder, Owl City, Secondhand Serenade, all sorts of Broadway/show tunes, Oldies, Country, Rock/Pop, and some Christian. Movie soundtracks also take up a large chunk of space on my iPod. :)

Movies: Some of my favorites are Tommy Boy, Apollo 13, The Princess Bride, The Holiday, Mean Girls, A League of Their Own, Fever Pitch, and almost anything Disney or Pixar. I really like musicals too! Also, movies that make you think and ones that I've never seen before. I just don't do horror flicks.

Books: I love Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and especially The Hunger Games. More recently, the Divergent series and a book called The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. John Green is also the man, and I've loved all of the books of his that I've read so far. I read grown-up books too, but there is a special place in my heart for children's/young adult literature. Sometimes I like reading the classics, just to see what all the fuss is about. I liked Lord of the Flies and thought Pride and Prejudice was okay. Josh and I once read the Bible - the whole thing - in 90 days with our church. It was about an hour of reading per night, EVERY NIGHT for three months, but we finished!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Protesting at the Texas state capitol with 12,000 other advocates for state funding for education. There was such a positive energy in that place with so many people uniting peacefully to make a difference.

Jumping out of an airplane, aka Skydiving. That was amazing in so many ways, and I still thank God for keeping us all safe. I was so scared!!

Diving at the "Seas with Nemo and Friends" exhibit at Epcot. This place was AMAZING. The entire tank is bigger than the spaceship earth ball (the big golf ball looking thing) and had all sorts of animals, including some sea turtles and HUGE, scary sharks! My favorite of all was the spotted eagle ray. He was so beautiful and brushed up next to me once!

Giving birth to, raising, and being a mother to my son. It is not always easy, but it is definitely an experience unlike any other.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a professional musician and music teacher and probably have a lot in that area to share! Most of all I just like to teach, and I'm good at it. So if I can do something, I can probably teach it to you! I would be interested in learning how to make videos with handheld recorders and how to make things. I also want to get better at speaking French and have started learning Spanish.
