About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Head south on a motorcycle. Meet up with Igna in Argentina, and spend the year cruisin' around.

ABOUT ME

One of these days I'm going to get my PhD, but in the interim I'm trying to live an interesting enough life that I won't have to repeat any of the crazy stories I'll tell my grandkids. I've got quite a list of places I still want to see, and things I want to do...and it's growing faster than I tick things off. Guess that means I'll just have to stay on the road awhile.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is good, but enjoyment of its goodness is magnified by sharing it with others. Traveling alone is great, but only because it means you're more likely to meet more new friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host whenever I'm home, though I'm on the road a lot both for work and for fun. I try to surf a few times a year. It's just so much more of a great experience to hang out with the locals! Always more fun than touristing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I often go to a new city just hoping to find a random place to sleep, and it usually works! I've crashed at many strangers' houses, and hosted quite a few strange people at my own. It's always good, especially when people are looking for some conversation in addition to a couch.

Interests

Seeing new things, meeting new people, sampling local food and drink, and enjoying every minute of everything I do. Lots of motorcycling, and a quite a bit of bicycling as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read philosophy and economics, enjoy alt-country and indie rock (though who doesn't these days?), and all sorts of movies. (Ok, now it's 2018 and I'm pretty sure I haven't updated that line in a decade. Still mostly true, not sure what that says about me!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Running through the Sierra Nevadas in southern Spain. Bicycling the northwest, and canoeing across the northwest in hand-built boats a'la Lewis and Clark. Driving around the Sahara.

Teach, Learn, Share

Willing to advise anyone on motorcycle touring, as I've done a lot of it on different types of bikes. Hoping to continue to learn more about economics, and international development, and where those two fields meet. So, you know, that's interesting.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My knowledge of cocktails and historical drinks is becoming encyclopedic. I really do need to get around to finishing that book one of these days...
