About Me

I am a Norwegian guy currently living and studying in Copenhagen, Denmark. I would describe myself as independent, open minded and easily fascinated, with a big interest in learning new things and meeting new people. I love exploring new ideas and concepts, and I'm always up for a good discussion about pretty much anything.

I have a degree as a jazz pianist, and have been working for some years as a musician. However, I wanted my life to consist of more more than just music, so I'm now taking another degree, in computer science (made possible by the ridiculously good student benefits we get in Scandinavia..) . Alongside my studies I work as a teaching assistant at my university, as a freelance musician, I also volounteer as a bartender.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been on couchsurfing for some years now, and I've surfed with and hosted so many awesome people. I love meeting people from different countries across the world, and time after time realizing that even though our cultures may be different, we still have so much in common. Meeting fellow couchsurfers has really made my travels so much more memorable, thanks so much guys!

Interests

I greatly enjoy both listening to and performing music. I listen to all kinds of different genres, though I tend to focus mainly on jazz and classical music. When performing I usually play in jazz bands, but I've also played in salsa, pop and soul groups. I also sing regularly in a classical choir, which I love!

I also love learning languages (both of the human and programming varieties), and I already know a few. One of the reasons I moved to Denmark was actually to perfect my Danish pronounciation! Currently, however, I'm learning French, in preparation for my exchange semester (thank you duolingo!).

My other interests include diving, technology, politics, futurism, feminism, science, movies, video games, food, psychology, hitchhiking, podcasts, hiking, good wine and beer, and of course traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of the musicians/composers/bands who have meant the most to me:

Bill Evans, Olivier Messiaen, Teddy Wilson, Atomic, Keith Jarrett, Johann Sebastian Bach, Lennie Tristano, Claude Debussy, Herbie Hancock, Paul Hindemith, Art Tatum, Jamiroquai, Esbjørn Svensson, Elephant9, Brad Mehldau, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, Oscar Peterson, Jojo Mayer, Dirty Loops.

As for movies, some favourites are Groundhog Day, Brazil, Gosford Park, Lost in Translation, Star Wars, LOTR, The Millenium Trilogy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Shawshank Redemption, and Spirited Away.

Some of my favourite video games include Baldur's Gate 2, The Longest Journey, GTA: Vice City, Mass Effect, Diablo 2, Final Fantasy VI-IX, Heroes of Might and Magic III, and Gone Home.

When it comes to books, I don't really read that much fiction.. I wish I had the patience for it. Maybe when I grow old? If I have to mention one, it would probably be "The curious incident of the dog in the night time" by Mark Haddon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've accompanied Ethiopian circus artists (and among them, a 8 year old child being thrown with variable success through burning rings) with fully improvised jolly circus music, trying to look happy and not too concerned, in front of an audience of thousands of people in Maputo, Mozambique.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're interested, I could teach you some piano, music theory, singing techniques, Norwegian, Danish or Japanese. I've also worked many years as a IT support technician, so if you have any computer related problems I could definitely help you out. :)
