About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be as unreasonable as reasonably possible.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Orlando and grew up in Nashville, and for eighteen years, I was ground-bound. Then I went to school and found out people really do go places.

So I stepped on a plane for the first time, going to California. After that I was hooked. Studied in France. Worked for the State Dept. in Washington DC. Lived in Brazil. Taught in South Korea. I was on the run with just my backpack as company for a year in South America until I finally managed to make my way home in the States. I worked in San Francisco for a while and then moved to Lyon, France for a bit. Just finished a masters at Harvard and moved back to SF for work.

So what sets me apart? Well, honestly, finding out is a life goal of mine. Sometimes I like to be challenged; sometimes I like to get that free lunch. Sometimes I like to be comfortable; sometimes I like to be uncomfortable. If I could describe myself in one way, it's that there is not one way you could describe me. I bet you're the same way, too.

That's the beauty of life; we're all the same in our uniqueness and all different in our sameness.

PHILOSOPHY

Why do I live my life? No one really ever gave me a choice, but it seems like life is probably better than what I had before, and will likely have after, so why not Carpe-diem this mother till the day I die?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, for now I'm just a surfer, you might say.

When I'm surfing, my primary goal is to make a new friend in a new place. Often a bottle of wine or a round of beers does the trick to warm the belly and get the stories flowing. I want to see your city from your perspective, not some stinky motel, and if I'm going to be stuck under dirty sheets anyway, I might as well be gathering dirt from other interesting folks.

Soon, when my crazy grad student life settles a bit, I'll be happy to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's been fun so far, and I can't wait to start returning the favors!

I've really met a lot of wonderful people through this, and from friends of friends. I've had drinks in random bars, sat under the stars, been to concerts of local legends, all because CS has allowed the exchange. Praise be to CouchSurfing!

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything that's good, usually. I've been into indie everything, though now that everyone else is, I guess it's not exactly indie. Sometimes it's a beat that drives me or a long drawn-out scene of a gray day.

The bad stuff's nice, too, sometimes, though I usually keep that on the down-low.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fitz Roy in Argentina, Iguazu Falls in Brazil/Argentina, jumping off a bridge in Ecuador, the Great Wall in China, and the little things - beers with friends, wine tasting in South Africa, jumping out of bed and running outside to watch the sunrise in the cool, misty morning.

Oh and writing a book. Sometimes I surprise myself with that one.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about Excel, or what to do with your startup, or tell you how to plan your trip, or even maybe a word or three in a few languages (and hopefully vice versa), but mostly I want to teach you how to burn, burn, burn!

Countries I’ve Visited
