About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discovering and experiencing as much as possible; also, seeing lots of beautiful cloud formations

ABOUT ME

I'm currently studying at Columbia in NYC for my J.D. (the three year degree requires to practice law). I'm passionate about languages, ethnic food, adventuring, climbing/hiking/bouldering/cycling, and hanging out with interesting people. I lived in Germany as a exchange student, and then took semesters off to travel through Central America, to live in Peru with friends, and to live in France with friends. I snagged an internship at the White House this fall, worked three months on an oil rig for the money and adventure, left after I was almost killed, and am now matriculating at Columia this August.

PHILOSOPHY

Live life lively.

BOOKS:Considering just authors, anything by David Foster Wallace, Faulkner, R.R. I have have two favorite periods: 1920s into early 1930s (think about it: Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Maugham, O'Hara) and American lit. circa mid '50- '90s (an incredible arc covering Beat Generation (Kerouac, Ginsberg, Bourroughs), erudite post-modern stuff (Delillo, Pynchon,) and others (Updike, Roth, JK Toole, Vonnegut, Heller); I'm slowly getting into the post- mid '90s stuff (post post-modern?!?), like Michael Chabon or Danielewski.

MOVIES:Memento, Godfather Part 2, Mystic River, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Donnie Darko,American Beauty, Se7en, Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. For directors, anything by Wenders, Herzog, Christopher Nolan, Van Sant, Paul Thomas Anderson, or Wes Anderson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sitting underneath a raging waterfall during a thunderstorm on the Isla de Omotepe in Nicaragua, attending a Quechuan New Year's ceremony on an island in the Lago de Titicaca, celebrating an Easter midnight service chanting and parading through Warsaw with a candle, hitchhiked 3.5 days and 2,000 miles with a 72-year old French missionary stationed in Segou, 400' rope swing off El Capitan in Yosemite, stargazing in gypsum sand dunes in NM.
