About Me

** 9/2018 IMPORTANT UPDATE**
I will be moving out of my apartment at the end of october, and most probably i'll be living out of barcelona for a while , so all requests for november on will be declined!

***************************************
I finished my engineering studies at UPC and been working since then in a small company, helping making it bigger :). I also love to play the violin in orchestras, mainly amateur orquestras now though :)

I love to travel in a responsible way, as every day I see my city being more and more consumed by tourism, the rent is getting ridiculously high, la Barceloneta, one of the most famous neighbourhoods, it was a lovely place when I was young, full of local life, nowadays its just for tourists as a 30m2 apartment can cost 1000€ per month.... My own rent has been increasing to the point I will have to rent a room soon to afford it.... One of the main problems is AirBnb, just because some people rent this 1000€ apartment in the Barceloneta and then offer it in AirBnb for 200€ per night, the thing it's completely illegal but it happens a lot so the rent prices get high quickly.

But enough of sad stories! I am a tourist as well, and we all know how tourism works, just that I will appreciate if you are the good kind of tourist.

Here you have a few tips about what's nice to see in Barcelona, mostly for free:

[plaça, plaza = square]
- the Gothic, the Ramblas, cathedral, the Jaume Square (Plaça Sant Jaume)... --> more or less the same area.
- La Boqueria: the most famous food market, placed in the Ramblas (from Plaça Catalunya to Plaça Colon, on the right side) where you can find delicious food and juices.
- the Born, Arc de Triomf, Parc de la Ciutadella, Barceloneta (beach)
- Parc Güell : for free and nice views.
- Montjuïc: a very nice hill in Barcelona where you can find gardens, a castle and nice views.
- Plaça Espanya: the most famous fountain, must seeing. Also, every night at 22h they make a light and water show in the fountain (for free).
- Casa Milà (La Pedrera) from Antoni Gaudí. Address: Passeig de Gràcia with Provença
- The Batlló house / La casa Batlló; address: Passeig de Gràcia, 43.
The outside of both houses is amazing and worth seeing, so you don't need to pay for the entrance if you don't want to, cause actually the outside is the best. (entrance between 15 and 20€).
- Sagrada Família from Antoni Gaudí. Must seeing.

There are a few nice bars around the Ramblas, Plaça Reial, Escudellers street .. also the famous mojitos in "La Rosa del Raval" for 3,5€ ;)
Also, there's a very cute bar called "El bosc de les fades" (the fairies forest); inside it's like a forest, very nice but expensive.

About nice lookouts:
You have a few in Montjuïc. Also, you can go all the way up to the terrace of the Arenas mall in Plaça Espanya, and have some nice views of the fountain and Montjuïc palace. Parc Güell is also above the sea level, so you have a nice lookout there.
However, the nicest lookout in Barcelona is called the Carmel bunkers... although I feel sad for the people living there as they have to handle the hundreds of tourists every day since it got famous... tourists go there and have dinner and many of them leave their trash there.... (aaarg.. My love-hate relationship with tourism...) so please be nice to the locals and take your trash with you :)

So If you read so far, include the word Skywalker in your request, you'll get an extra point! :D
