About Me

I've been accumulating a lot of stuff lately, but I'm looking forward getting out on the road again. Looking forward to journaling on the train, capturing audio snapshots, and producing little radio episodes of my journey. Lots of philosophical musing,

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Sharing new experiences with strangers is so exciting. My most memorable was couchsurfing in Bruges, Belgium, where I was able to wander through that fairy tale of a town, guided by my host to eat and drink in the best locations. Such a wonderful experience, especially in place where there wasn't much for cheap places to stay.

Music, Movies, and Books

books: Matsuo Basho's Narrow Road to the Deep North inspired me to wander, and I've enjoyed lots of existential philosophy and Beat literature. In my childhood, I read mostly myths, and now I'm really excited by reading Trickster myths of the indigenous "Americas."

music: i'm tired of a lot of what I've been listening to...I've spent lots of time listening to Radiohead, Deerhoof, Wilco, Elliott Smith, The Mountain Goats, Brand New, Sonic Youth, Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective, Björk...but now I'm most interested in the kind of live music that you find in house shows, rambling musicians who are humble and play their hearts out.

shows: Cowboy Bebop, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Pulp Fiction, Band of Outsiders, 8 1/2, The Royal Tenenbaums, Spirited Away, Vertigo, Solaris...but Sans Soleil by Chris Marker is my BAE!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

walked across half of my home state of North Dakota and contributed to a book that got published! Sold 250 copies so far and that's pretty cool.

Teach, Learn, Share

I studied nihilism in graduate school. I could talk for hours about how this topic manifests in culture, religion, etc. and especially curious to learn how it fits into American capitalism ;P

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook -- show me whatever is in your kitchen/fridge and I can probably cook something delicious from it! I would be more than happy to share this labor of love with you for warm spot to sleep.
