About Me

Grew up on a ranch in Texas, near a small town in the hill country. Currently Raleigh-Durham, NC based. A social entrepreneur who believes most things are possible. I value new experiences and discoveries that challenge my current paradigm and begin to lay the foundation for new, more rounded and inclusive views and understandings. Currently growing a social venture called CompostNow.

Let's envision and create the world we want to live in :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In every city I visit, I seek a glimpse of what living there would be like. Staying with friends, new and old, is an opportunity I cherish.

Interests

Focusing my interests has been a lifelong challenge. Everything is so curious; enticing exploration! As of late, I've prioritized building the impact company I am a co-founder of; and seeking to invest energies in activities and ideals that improve the lives of those around me, as well as my own. I rock climb often, camp not as often as I'd like, but consistently seek out wide ranging conversation topics, and new experiences. Ideally over great food! With most of my energy going into making our company the best it can be for team members, customers and community, it as been a while since I have started or got involved in as many other organizations as I'd like. In recent past, I have co-founded a shared workspace space in Raleigh for community-minded people and business, a micro-granting organization to fund Awesome grassroots ideas in Raleigh-Durham and (currently) sit on the City of Raleigh Environmental Advisory Board (advising City Counsel on matters of the environment within the city).

Music, Movies, and Books

TED.com, BIG THINK, Creative Mornings, Stanford eCorner, Stanford and MIT open courseware, Netflix documentaries, Inc Magazine, Fast Co., How I Built This, and whatever these channels lead me to.

Most music, even country (typically when driving with the windows down).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Grew up on a ranch, and had the opportunity to watch many a young animal explore and discover their environment for the first time. Along with that, I got to spend time raising Siberian tiger cubs and (my favorite) a black leopard cub named Kenya. I took Kenya to show-and tell at school :)

Flew to Australia when I was 19 with no place to stay and $500 (but I brought a hammock!).

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy the sharing of passions, interests, and perspectives (good conversation). Have a bit of experience in the social entrepreneurship/startup space, enjoy introducing people to rock climbing, good food and interesting people. Enjoy the exercise of co-discovering and integrating seemingly disparate ideas/philosophies/frameworks. Always up for cooking a meal or sharing a nice bottle of wine.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy the fresh perspective of sharing Raleigh with visitors and giving a glimpse of what it offers.
