Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

To GO and SEE and IMAGINE and DISCOVER and DO and LEARN and SHARE and stuff...

ABOUT ME

Tall red-head enjoys long walks just about anywhere, good food, good company.. Seeks travelling companions or a sleeping surface, any couch will do...

In all seriousness though, I consider myself to be a pretty easy-going, genuine person. I like the creature comforts but I'm not afraid to get out and experience new things. I love learning about different cultures, and hearing people's stories.

I grew up in New Zealand and I'm interested in the History, Art and Literature of our sweet little nation. I also love taking myself off on big road trips around the place, particularly to the beach, and we've got some stunners! I like old cars, my vehicle of choice for said road trips used to be a '76 VW Kombi, and I've been stuck on the side of the road with it (in the middle of nowhere) more times than I can count.

I'm quite outdoorsy and love tramping (aka. hiking) cycling, kayaking, swimming, camping and probably loads of things that I haven't tried yet.

I also enjoy reading, visiting art galleries, and meeting creative people. I worked as a graphic designer for a couple of years before going travelling, and I've been teaching technology and design in Secondary Schools for the past 4 years.

So that's basically it. I'm looking forward to travelling again, meeting new people, experiencing new ways of life, sharing my knowledge with others, and hopefully making the world a better place.

PHILOSOPHY

Ouch! Big question so early in the morning...still working on figuring out my personal philosophy. It's probably something very standard like 'Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you'. I also value learning and think that as long you continue to learn during your lifetime, then you're doing something right!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I've just finished reading 'Kafka on the Shore' by Haruki Murakami, i love 'The Life of Pi' by Yann Martel, 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' Ken Kesey and the classics that everone loves like 'To Kill a Mockingbird' Harper Lee. I dunno there are so many GREAT books out there - I used to work at an amazing 2nd-hand bookshop, and I could pretty much sit and read all day!

Music - 60's classics like Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin. More recent bluesy rock like The White Stripes and The Black Keys. Some groovy NZ dub (ever heard of Fat Freddy's Drop, Sola Rosa, Kora)? And then indie-folky stuff like Sufjan Stevens and Fleet Foxes.

Movies - Pretty much anything! American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine, Pulp Fiction, The 'Kill Bill's, Paris Texas, Pans Labyrinth, The Science of Sleep... The strangest film i've seen (so far) is Holy Mountain by Jodorowski - now THAT was an experience!

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

One of the coolest moments of my life was when I was with some friends at a remote beach in New Zealand and we went swimming at night in a storm. We parked the car on the sand with headlights pointing out into the ocean, and then ran in. It was still almost pitch-black and we could hardly hear each-other over the crashing waves, it was very exciting. We could only pin-point where each-other was but the flash of phosphoresence that illuminated when you dove under a wave. It was such a natural, simple experience that really made me appreciate where I live in the world, and I will never forget it.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I have taught English in Oaxaca, Mexico. I teach teenagers to draw, design, 3D print, Laser Cut, work with a range of materials and techniques like glass fusing and jewellery making. I'd like to learn to play the accordian. I can share some pretty good guacamole.
