About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eat, drink, and be merry.

ABOUT ME

I live by myself, I pay my own rent, I wear socks that match, and I can count to 100 with my eyes closed (impressive, right?). I like public transportation and wandering around cities. I'm also a big fan of adjectives.

Here is where I could write what every single CouchSurfing profile in existence has in this section: "I'm laid back", "I like to travel:, blah de blah, insert reference to 'having a good time' here. I'm not going to do that, though, because I don't take myself seriously. You shouldn't either.

I'm originally from New England (so I like light-houses, the Boston Celtics, and fried clams), but have variously lived or spent significant time in New York, Pennsylvania, California, Washington D.C., Arizona, Japan, and Madagascar.

Sometimes I make faces at myself in the mirror.

I like robots, outer space, vikings, dinosaurs, bats, and three-toed sloths.

Anyway, I love meeting and talking to new people, so feel free to drop me a line about absolutely anything. Even if you aren't going to be crashing on my couch, send me a joke, or a story, or a complete non sequitir!

I also love puns. Here is my current favorite:

What do you call a transcendental police detective? A Thoreau investigator!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There's no other way to travel. Well, there are other ways, but I like couch-surfing the most. I've made some good friends through this site.

Interests

Defenestration, making a spectacle of myself in public, Yggdrasil, a good beer or fine whiskey, travel/adventure, spelunking, body surfing, hiking/backpacking, DIY and sustainable living, speaking in phony/funny accents, books, bad puns, conversation, shoes and ships and ceiling wax, cabbages and kings, why the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to consider myself open-minded when it comes to movies, music, and books. I suppose that is what everyone says, so if you get in touch with me you can put my claim to the test.

My favorite authors (in no real order) are Bruce Chatwin, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Ivan Turgenev, Italo Calvino, Hunter Thompson, Raymond Carver, Eugene O'Neill, Yasunari Kawabata, Phillip K. Dick, and Lewis Carroll.

I like sci-fi/horror movies (the EVIL DEAD series! or, say, movies with titles like "Killer Klowns from Outer Space"), or films that are just plain weird ("Beetlejuice" and "Rocky Horror Picture Show," for example). But I'm just as happy watching foreign art-house flicks or absurdly stupid action movies. I'm not picky.

Funk. Nothing beats the funk. But my playlists vary on my mood. Sometimes I listen to folk music, sometimes I listen to unbearably hipster indie rock, sometimes I listen to rap, or just rock, or punk, electronic, noise, garage, jazz, trance, dance, flamenco, metal, classical, etc. Whatever genre you care to name, I can probably find something I like within.
