About Me

CURRENT MISSION

the art of human interaction

ABOUT ME

I just cut off all my hair this past winter (I had dreads that almost reached my waistline). I say that so the pictures don't fool you. I'm not generally a camera person, so most of these pictures are from a couple years ago or more.

I just went on University Sabbatical for a year and worked on a farm/nature preserve/camp. I'm back now and am very slowly re-entering town life, including the CS community.

I'm currently studying Empowerment Pedagogy at Uni and also study primitive and homesteading skills, music, dance, cooking, herbalism, Agroforestry, gardening and many other things that are always coming and going. I am a proud local of Asheville, NC and love the Appalachian Mountains more than I could ever express.

My big current project is developing the land I live on to produce a lot of good food. All help will be much appreciated.

PHILOSOPHY

"We, the people of the future, like the generations who came before us, have the right to air that smells sweet, to water that tastes pure, and to land that is fertile, unsoiled and green." - Adbusters or beyond?

"Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits." - Thomas Edison

I believe the future of mankind will depend on communities that value things like resilience, personal health, self-reliance, creativity and most of all compassion.

I believe that children should be raised by villages and educated in the elements.

I believe that what makes life worth living is meaningful connection, laughter, compassion - the satisfaction of sharing the beauty of this world with each other. This is the fifth element.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience Couch Surfing was a slow road trip from North Carolina to Montreal, Canada and back (staying in Montreal for a week) several years ago. When I studied abroad in Italy I traveled through couch surfing often and am grateful to have been heavily involved in the CS community in Trieste, IT.

Music, Movies, and Books

I grew up on movies and books and no TV (thank God). I'm always up for watching movies I haven't seen. Some of my favorites are: The Gods Must Be Crazy, Contact, Snatch, Mystery Men, Waking Life, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Princess Bride, all Mel Brook's movies, 12 Monkeys, the Matrix Trilogy, Hayao Miyazaki movies, Monty Python works, Cannibal the Musical, Dark City, Big Fish, Clue, ... I could keep going.

Favorite books/series: Earth's Children aka Clan of the Cave Bear Series, Sevenwater Trilogy, Earthsea, Douglas Adams's books, Neil Geiman's books like American Gods and Stardust, Steven King's Dark Tower Series, Fruits Basket... of course the list could never end

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked with Eustace Conway on Turtle Island for a year as an intern and lived to tell the tale.

Teach, Learn, Share

Learning can sometimes cost great sacrifices, consume resources, and require unmeasurable strength. Often the more we risk and give of ourselves for these lessons, the more we can learn from them. However, here are some kick ass lessons at the click of a button! Mwaah ha haaa!

My two favorite TED Talks:

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/robert_sapolsky_the_uniqueness_of_humans.html

Interested in helping to save the world? (what does that mean anyway?) These people have impacted the way I view sustainability:
