About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to feel like the world is as close and accessible as a backyard. A backyard with infinite corners and little niches to explore. And what to people do in backyards? Play! I really like the social aspect of Couch Surfing as opposed to the impersonal

ABOUT ME

I’m a guy, twentysomething, and growing. Having many friends/peers from different cultures, I understand what it means to be respectful. I’m very agreeable and like to experience a variety of cultures. Stick me at a farm on a mountain and I’ll love to enjoy the silence, or put me in a downtown of a metropolis and I’ll love to explore the museums, theaters, bars etc...

PHILOSOPHY

“In order to discover new oceans, you have to have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” ~Andre Gilde.
I try and apply this to every aspect of my life. (And I love oceans)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I’ve yet to participate through Couchsurfing.org.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although I haven’t had any “formal” couch surfing experience, I have definitely had my fair share of staying at friends and relative’s houses around the world and sleeping on their couch, mattress, chair, futon and more!

Interests

I’m interested in stories. I am a visually creative person and am constantly looking for ways to frame stories into some sort of visual context. More specifically, I like films, photography, music, dance, paintings, and politics (yes, there is a ton of narrative in politics). Those are things that spark my flame, but I really “do,” make, and create movies and photos. When looking for inspiration, I love to pop my iPod in, with camera in hand and walk around taking photos or videos around wherever I’m traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

We are all changing, and I don’t believe in favorites, but I can list my most recent fascinations.
Movies: The Skin I Live In / Dark Knight (because Batman is my favorite hero).
Music: The Knife / Florence + Machine / Janelle Monae / Vivaldi
Books: 1984, Invisible Man, and right now trying to read Machiavelli’s The Prince.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First thing that comes to mind is a trek that I did in Iceland. Two separate backpacking trek of about 50 miles each over a total of about two weeks. Iceland was really something else. On the first trek of 4 days we walked from landscapes of rocky lava flows, to glaciers, to green fields, and on to an ash desert. Being so isolated on this island that looks like it belongs on another planet was really amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

As a host, I’d like to learn to remember things to do or suggest to a guest right off the top of my head. Sometimes I have to go and look at a list that I’ve made because I can forget even the obvious things.
As a guest, one suggestion I have is that cooking and good food makes for a happy camper (or surfer).
