ABOUT ME
Creating and appreciating art (written, visual, auditory) is an important part of my life. I attempt to play piano and guitar and write bad poetry and take too many photographs, but sometimes I get lucky and something turns out okay. I don't read enough books anymore. I'm trying to learn more languages. I walk pretty quickly. I like learning about other people's quirks. I'm working on being a more patient and flexible person.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed for the first week I while I was in Copenhagen and homeless. Great experience, and really a terrific way to dive into a new city. Since then, I've been surfing while traveling and hosting whenever I can offer up space.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Anything with good lyrics and a solid harmony. Languages I can't understand are also a plus, and I'll always have a special place in my heart for classical piano music.
Books: Ones that string words together in delightful and novel ways without losing meaning. Science fiction, particularly Michael Crichton's work, is my guilty pleasure.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Summers when I visit my dad's family in China, my grandfather wakes me up every morning before the sunrise to hike the nearby mountain. When we arrive at the base of the mountain, there's always a huge crowd of elderly men and women already doing their morning exercises: dancing, badminton, tai chi, etc, and by the time we climb to the top of the mountain, we're greeted by the many who arrived at the top before us. Sometimes we time it perfectly and reach the summit just as the sun is rising, and at that moment, despite the smog and pollution and constant cycle of construction/destruction, China looks peaceful.
I hope I still have such zest for mornings when I'm 80.
Teach, Learn, Share
Once, I traded Chinese lessons for guitar lessons. This other time, I tried to teach my CS host how to play Taylor Swift on the piano. I recently learned how to bake Polish carrot bread. I'd like to learn how to play the harmonica or another easily portable instrument.
