About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Try not to get food poisoning

ABOUT ME

Max and I (Lindsay) met during study abroad in Tanzania, graduated from college two years later, worked for a year to make money to travel, took a 10 month trip across Eurasia overland, moved to Washington, DC, and started graduate school. And that is our life story. Currently, Max is a full time law student at George Washington University, and I work at the Elliott School of International Affairs at their Global Gender Program while I also work towards my Masters in Public Health part-time.

Travel has always been a passion of ours. We both hope to make international experience a part of our daily lives. Now that we have settled in DC we are looking forward to learning about the international community in our city. To help accomplish this goal we are trying to learn Spanish - especially since we live in a part of the city that has many Spanish speakers.

PHILOSOPHY

While we are young time feels endless. We can always start living our lives tomorrow. But that is crap. Live your life today and make it your own.

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." - Oscar Wilde

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

CS was such a crucial part of our 10 month adventure in Eurasia. It enriched our experience greatly. We stayed with and met so many CSer along the way. They were our teachers, our inspiration, and our guides. We owe so much the all the wonderful people that brought us into their homes, shared meals with us, and taught us about their country, culture, and politics. We hope to pay it forward. We also hope to use CSing as a means to develop our own international and local awareness by learning Spanish! If you are interested in helping us learn Spanish, please contact me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have surfed many times, but are pretty new to hosting.

Interests

Hiking, beaches, mountains, traveling (duh), having interesting conversations, dancing, relaxing, cooking and learning Spanish. If you host us, don't be surprised if Lindsay takes over your kitchen and cooks for you.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now Max is readying the Iliad (because we were just in Greece and he felt inspired), and I (Lindsay) am reading Lord of the Rings (because I never have and it is fun). I think that says something about both or our personalities.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We went gorilla trekking in Rwanda, and it was probably the coolest thing either of us have ever done. Seriously it was worth every penny. A baby gorilla actually brushed up against my leg and a silver back beat his chest at us.

Teach, Learn, Share

We have surfed quite a bit. Below are some tips we picked up along the way:

1. Ask your host their daily schedule so you can accommodate
2. Plan to have at least one meal with your host
3. Offer to help out with household chores
4. Do your own dishes and tidy up your space
5. If you go to the grocery store, ask your host if they need anything
6. Ask your host how to clean up and prepare for your departure (i.e. laundry, keys, etc.)
7. This is not a must-do, but one thing Max and I used to do before we went on a trip is pick up a bunch on post cards from our hometown/country and write thank you notes to our hosts on it. It is a nice way to show your thanks and then they have a keepsake from you.
