About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy Life and Make it a Safer Place!

ABOUT ME

Relaxed go lucky individual.

PHILOSOPHY

There are three types of people in this world:

Those that "Make Things Happen"
Those that "Watch things Happen"
Those that :Wonder what the _____ just happened?"

Which Are You?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to host surfers that are travelling for fun, work, and finding out about all the world has to offer. When time permits I like to explore other places in the US and international locations!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted dozens of couples, singles, and groups that travel to the New Orleans area. I try to make time to show them parts of the city where you can enjoy all that Louisiana has to offer with friends, acquaintances and do it on a budget if necessary.

Interests

I play a lot of poker when I am not working.

I work a lot with local, state and federal government. I am involved with making our communities safe from disasters and threats. Sometimes that threat is poor leadership and management of our tax paying dollars so on occasion I get involved with politics - to make sure our citizens are safe.

I love sports (especially our local World Champions-the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Hornets).

Volleyball is my favorite past time. We have the worlds largest man-made outdoor complex in the City of New Orleans. It was flooded for Katrina and again for Hurricane Gustav and Ike - but we re-built it three times so far. Now we are trying to save it because a pumping station will be built right beside it. We have a wonderful volleyball community of over 5,000 people. We play leagues during the week and two person, four person, and six person tournaments on the weekends. Any surfers want to come in town for volleyball tourneys I would love to host you... then beat you at some two on two...

Poker is my next fun hobby. I have played in a couple World Series of Pokers, host weekly poker tourneys for fun at my house, and play whenever the budget and job allows. Maybe one day - you will see a Couch Surfer on the final table (I might be the security guy instead of a player though...hehe)

Music, Movies, and Books

I cant find enough time to read... audio books are now my favorite thing in the world... I read about two books per week and have 3-4 open at any time.

Music - Fred Leblanc - "Cowboy Mouth"
- Jack Johnson
- Alanis Morrisette
- Henry Kopono (Hawaii)
- Aaron Tippin
- Enigma
Don't Worry - be happy

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have climbed Mount Shasta in California, I have played poker against T.J., Doyle, Alan, Hashem, and more, I have been kicked out of the Russian Naval Pac Fleet Submarine base in Vladivostok, traveled to Africa to evacuate Americans and foreigners from Civil War, sat in the President's seat on HMX-1 Helo, served during two wars in the USMC, worked with federal agencies from EPA, NSA, FBI, DOJ, FEMA, DHS, CIA, DOD, DIA, and still cant remember where I put my keys to the car.

I have jumped out of airplanes, scuba in Okinawa, Hawaii and Guam, floated on Navy Ships for weeks without sight of land (I get seasick every time still), and lived in Hawaii, Japan, Washington DC, Guam, Virginia Beach and more.

I have helped manage disasters from small to big to "Holy Crap thats Big" from Hurricane Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Ike, Ivan to Oil Spills, to Search and Rescue or Recovery Operations of Airplane Crashes and lost children.

Life is even more fun when your job - is your passion.

Life is soooo worth living.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have seen a lot of things - and I have missed a lot of things. Ever drive by a sleepy town and wonder what everyone is doing late at night with family, friends, and work?
I teach at the local university and part of my job is to teach First Responders and Public Safety professionals to help them do their job to their best - every time I teach a class - I seam to learn more than I teach...

What I Can Share with Hosts

A world of knowledge from emergency management, homeland security, pandemic experience, COVID19, poker, history, travel ideas and much more.

Countries I’ve Visited

Côte d'Ivoire, France, Grenada, Iceland, Iraq, Japan, Liberia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Russian Federation, Saint Lucia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam, Virgin Islands, British, Virgin Islands, U.S.
