PHILOSOPHY

"jealousy is suffering, misery is greed" -tupac (ok, that's not the real quote, but I thought it was for about 10 years so maybe it's my quote? Either way I like it!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I instigate fun. I seem to be more in the background in the last few years here, answering questions and giving advice pretty regularly but not hosting as I've been on the go most of the time. So apologies that I can't host now or recently, but if you have questions, let 'em rip!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have watched CS grow from less than 600 members to about 15,000,000!! have stayed with about 50 different hosts and hosted many times here in the past... An amazing way to meet others while traveling, always good times!

Interests

I can't do anything halfway. If I like something I go all in, until I like the next thing then I go for that, and so on. Like travel. A chaotic way to live but so far so good :)

I love helping people. I've been burned a few times but the overwhelming majority of humans are amazing people and I enjoy helping people when I can.

I've recently, in the last 5 years, discovered a love of hiking. I always loved the outdoors but now I like walking in and thru it.

I like GOOD parties- not constant parties. I've been going to Burning Man for 12 years and other regional burns for 15 years. If you have ever considered going I highly suggest getting to know that community!

I love kids, worked with them for 10+ years before I just decided to change careers because the emotional toll of working with at-risk youth and sad foster kids for 10 years is about as much as I can handle! BUT, no kids of my own and no plans for that.

I love good food, cheap wine, stinky cheese, exotic dishes and will try most any food or drink that isn't spicy. I repeat- that is NOT spicy! That's a hard one to find in some countries ;)

I like most things science/outer space related, math and patterns, swarms/flocks/packs, rhythms, all kinds of systems and how things work.

I can talk myself into or out of most anything.

I make costumes for Burning Man and just whatever else comes up.

Not into drugs, personally.

I like old things that show signs of character. I love reading outdated journals and texts regarding the future. Like books written in the 20s romanticizing moon landings, etc.

I can learn most any skill with my hands.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies.. anything original and painstakingly-crafted at least gets my respect, if not my liking. Big Lebowski, Vanilla Sky, My Cousin Vinny, Fletch, Joe Versus The Volcano!, Groundhog Day, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Wong Kar Wai films (most), LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!, The Edukators, Amelie, Last of the Mohicans, all Michel Gondry's stuff, Ryan Larkin animation, The Endurance.. and of course Legends of the Fall..

I enjoy music that you can imagine seeing people enjoy making.. Dropkick Murphys, Tupac, Royksopp, Otis Redding, Simon and Garfunkel, oldies oldies oldies, Nina Simone, Bedouin Soundclash, Jurassic 5, Banhart, Reggae, Sigur Ros, Fleet Foxes, Yes, Bon Iver, Belle & Sebastian, jazz, dance, house, Ella Fitzgerald, Neil Young, Motown, Florence and the Machine, [Classical, Black Keys, White Stripes,] rockabilly, Natalie Merchant, bluegrass, Mumford and Sons, Birdy, folk, funk, Feist, Of Montreal, Animal Collective, Pearl Jam, Outkast, Parov Stelar, Shins, Bonobo, The Animals, Debussy, Massive Attack, Elton John, pre-'pardon me' Incubus.. would prefer live music any day, be it on my porch or blaring across thousands of screaming fans in an amphitheater.

Favorite singer? Eddie Vedder

Books- Diary of a century, my old journals, Infinite Jest, old bio's, Shantaram is good for a couple reads. Twilight series. Ok, that last one was a joke ;) Old classics always good in all categories.... Pretty much (dating excluded) all of my interests are in old things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've realized, among other things, that at certain moments i have actually lived to the fullest of my ability. 11 years at Burning Man and burner events have made me so much better in so many ways.. I kidnap unruly teens in the middle of the night for a living, that's pretty amazing...and most recently spent 3 years working with foster children which was challenging and very rewarding (I didn't kidnap them). Oh and I once got all three brothers in Hanson to sign my boob with a sharpie ;)

I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, that was pretty cool :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach- anything I know I'm willing to teach people, just ask! I can cook pretty well, and I can do well in most artistic endeavors. I can teach you how to spin fire (or at least get you started).

Learn- I want to get better at poi, i'd like to learn alternate ways of living (but not radical get-your-gun-live-in-the-woods type off-grid living). Want to learn German!

Share- even when i was little i was good at sharing, just ask.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I feel like I've laid out a long list of things I am interested in or good at, I'm happy to help any way I can with whatever you are interested in!
