About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore and photograph all of the places I have the opportunity to visit, and meet wonderful people along the way.

ABOUT ME

I'm an adventurer, photographer, actor, model, linguist, botanist, fisherman, hiker, runner, exercise enthusiast, healthy cook, and wild edible foodist. In me you'll find a truthful and honest guy with lots of interests and abilities. I love meeting people with unusual life experiences from all over the world and am always learning new languages. Currently I speak English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and some Russian.

I love exploring new places. In January of 2013, I had the opportunity to go to Puerto Rico and did a side trip to Isla Culebra, spending 8 days exploring and photographing the island. An article about my trip was published in El Nuevo Dia: http://www.elnuevodia.com/inusualaventuradeestadounidenseenculebra-1439300.html

I can not describe the incredible sense of peace and satisfaction I experience from spending time alone in the wilderness. I've backpacked in Alaska, beaches of the Caribbean, mountains of California, and jungles of Mexico. I am always by how much natural beauty is still just a walk away.

PHILOSOPHY

I find life to be a very interesting journey. My perspectives seem to be constantly changing based on my personal experiences. I realize that we Americans tend to make life so much more complicated that necessary. Life should be filled with joy and vibrant energy. If I could do it all over with the knowledge I've gained I would definitely do things differently.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since I don't have my own place at this time I have only participated as a surfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My Couch Surfing experience has been unbelievable! I've met awesome people every time. The experience has been unprecedented! It is an opportunity to learn about other cultures, traditions, and so much more because Couch Surfers are such unique and extraordinary people. Also, I have made some new friends that I continue to stay in contact with.

Interests

I love photography and film making, especially when it involves beautiful natural locations and/or gorgeously lit urban and rural architecture. Also, foreign languages grab my attention. My native tongue is English, however, I also speak Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, and I'm learning Russian and Nahuatl. History is also a subject I find fascinating.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy adventure and comedy films, also international movies. Most of the music I listen to is international because I'm usually always studying a foreign language and use music to help create my domestic immersion. I often read books dealing with nutrition, wild foods, history, or language learning.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is a tough one, because there have been so many times. In 2013 I did an amazing camping adventure on an island off the coast of Puerto Rico, and I learned so much from that trip. Another amazing moment in my life was the first time I laid eyes upon the Caribbean Sea. It was in August of 1999. For so long I had longed to go there and I finally did go to Cancun. When I saw the turquoise blue waters on that hot August morning I immediately sprinted to the sea and threw myself into the water and all of my senses basked in the beauty. Since then I have always been drawn to escape to beautiful natural God-created places. I also recall the immense peace and sense of adventure I experienced when floating down a portion of the river below the waterfalls of Agua Azul in Chiapas, Mexico. Oh, and once when walking at night in Cozumel there was an intense lightning storm. I was awestruck by the immense power being shot down from the heavens and the beauty of this natural phenomenon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach people photography tips, language learning tips (I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and am learning Russian), also health related topics. I am constantly studying about nutrition and know many of the wild edible plants, especially in southern California. Also, I can help people with fitness. I'm really into doing more with less. You can learn a language in a relatively short amount of time by applying simple techniques. You can get into great physical shape without paying monthly gym dues or putting equipment in your home. You can eat healthy and well for quite cheap.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I mentioned before, I speak a few languages and can share what I've learned with languages. Also I can share workout tips, nutrtion for specific physical goals, traditional cooking techniques, and photography tips.
