About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Talk to Strangers!

ABOUT ME

During the week, I go to school full-time for my PhD in Criminal Justice (no, it really hasn't much to do with studying law!), and teach undergrads (actually try to inculcate the love of statistics in them!). I also work part-time on my own business (extra dough!). During the weekends, I meet random people (I once met about 100 people from 30 different countries in a span of 4 hours). In between, I like to travel when I can (visited most states in the North East, now looking to explore TX), go hiking (I hiked up the tallest peak in NYS), camp out (yes, 7 degrees is as cold as it sounds!), going on random road trips (have clocked about 3,500 miles so far on two trips, looking forward to doing route 66 in the near future!), explore and learn more about the city (I usually end up knowing more about the city than the permanent residents do!), cook occasionally (I love cooking for people rather than myself, and everyone seems to love the chicken biryani that I make!), play pool (if you like to play pool, awesome!)etc.

PHILOSOPHY

"The longer I live the more I realize life is nothing but a series of unending experiments."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have attended social gatherings within the local CS community. I have also attended couch-crashes in Montreal,Philly and Buffalo. They are super fun and look forward to helping out Rochester own couch-crash in the near future!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It has been enlightening to say at the least, and I have met some wonderful people along the way. In fact, 2 of my best friends are CSers!

Interests

I love being outdoors, checking out museums, attending film, art and music festivals, meeting new people and traveling.
I consider myself a foodie, love to try out all different kinds of food. Whenever I visit a city, I always try to find out what the city has to offer in terms of cuisine. The 'hole in wall' places are usually which define the culinary culture of a city and also where you find the best tasting offerings! Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations is a favorite.

Music, Movies, and Books

I haven't read books in a while, grad school just drained me of my love for books! Hope to start getting back to it once more!
For me movies are not just about entertainment, sometimes it's about connecting with your surroundings and the rest of the world. My tastes are at best , eclectic. Some of my favorites are Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, The Apu Trilogy, Fight Club, Agora, Das Experiment, The Green Mile, Stand By Me, The King's Speech, Gran Torino, Let the Right One In, The Man from Earth, Pulp Fiction, Inception, Psycho, The Shining.
I grew up getting exposed to mostly Bollywood music and the occasional English pop. I have outgrown that and trying to experience all different genres I can. I can't really say if there is any particular kind of music I like. For me music is something to dance to, relax to, to help you get your school work done, to connect with people etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the Milky Way in all its glory in a truly dark sky.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to drive a stick (5 speed manual).
I can teach you how to cook a biryani (the fast, easy way).
I can teach you how to make digital maps(using ArcMap).
I can teach you how to speak in Hindi and Bengali (granted I still remember them when I meet you!).
I can show you around town!
