About Me

CURRENT MISSION
playing in the dirt

ABOUT ME
katia here. i'm quite amiable, but i am quite moody too and talk a lot of bullshit. saying this you should know igor terenteev said something like that the future lies in bullshit. i love being a misanthrope from time to time, although i mostly just try to be in the flow. daoism somehow. i'm only judgemental for fun or when i am pretty annoyed by someone which can happen very quickly during my period.
furthermore i love big cities and go crazy if i stay in the countryside for too long.
oh, and i think cockroaches are intriguing and teach us important lessons: being social animals they live together in non-hierarchical groups. cleaning each other, enjoying each other's company, whatsoever. technically a kibbuz-style life.

i kind of settled down for a while, to study in university: majoring in creative writing, musicology and cultural anthropology, minoring in indology/tibetology/mongolian studies. right now i am living in yogyakarta, indonesia, to study gamelan music, shadow puppetry and dance.
i am mostly involved in literature, music, video and performance art. so if you want to collaborate, just hit me up :)
i've been an avid hitchhiker for 8 years. actually i'm travelling to search for a new home, but since "home" is always there where a tree corresponding to your zodiac is, or maybe where your feet stand on, i dont have to search too much. i hope this was enough hippy-esque shit.

PHILOSOPHY

what a piece of work is man!
how noble in reason!
how infinite in faculty!
...in form and moving how express and admirable!
in action how like an angel!
in apprehension how like a god!
the beauty of the world!
the paragon of animals!
and yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

heut kommt der hans zu mir,
freut sich die lis.
ob er aber über oberammergau
oder aber über unterammergau
oder aber überhaupt nicht kommt
ist nicht gewiss.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

connecting people, more magnificent than nokia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

quite a bit - but mostly not from this site. i tend to host and get hosted spontaneously.

Interests

music, poetry, art, drama, dance, feminism, politics, psychology, spirituality, ethnology, walking around, romanticise the east, mistrust the west, calligraphy, watching people, going where i shouldnt go, being where i shouldnt be, oriental studies, slavic studies, sinology, drama science, philosophy, religions, antifascism, antispeciesism, discussions, bringing somehow a bit happiness to the world if necessary. but since happiness is overrated i usually try to keep that down.

Music, Movies, and Books

laszlo krasznahorkai, li qingzhao, wolfgang koeppen, helga m. novak,
bora cosic, mikhail lermontov, herta müller and anna akhmatova.
...............
HAIR, jesus christ superstar
i'm totally uneducated concerning movies. change it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i got a lift by a real chechen bandit. i founded a religion when i was in elementary school. i fell in love in and with kosovo and kept coming back there whenever possible for 1 1/2 years. i was chased by the security guards of angkor wat, they on a scooter, me on a bicycle (it's possible to sneak in through the jungles, by the way). i slept next to a creepy balkan cemetery with moving shadows and, even better, moving grave stones in montenegro. splashing water on policemen during songkran in chiang mai, thailand. i was forced to stay in ulaanbaatar for five weeks during winter, studied throat singing in university and learnt a lot about how places you completely dislike can weaken you. i lost my passport in iran and stayed there illegally for 26 days. i hitchhiked from tbilissi to prishtina in 52 hours, having only eaten two plates of corba soup. i accidentely crossed two vietnamese national parks together with a russian couple, having almost no food but some ounces of forgotten and refound oatmeal, drinking out of water falls, being hosted by village people and hiking more than 100 km through mountains with steadily disappearing shoes in less than five days, being not really sporty. i got kissed in a mine field and didnt know about the latter.
the real cool things i've either forgotten or they aren't cool anymore, or i just won't publish them here.
i believe that working on aesthetics and on the beauty of your life gives it a sense. hedonism is a big part of that. travelling, playing music, writing, discovering that the universe holds you in her/his/its bottom. always. somehow. again, that hippy spirit starts to take over so ill stop.

Teach, Learn, Share

my problem is not being able to say no, not being able to not be interested in anything and not being able to get rid of negative freaks. so just tell me whatever you want, i will probably enjoy it or at least trying to pretend so.

what i can offer:
-how to use your mouth as a persuasive trumpet fake
-creating jewelry, with beads and anything you can find on the street. or what u steal from people you never met
-how to lose your shyness in an embarrassing way.
-being a dirty, uncivilized street kid.
-some creative skills. eh-eh.
-how to get into trouble. can be incredibly funny.
-how to insult germans properly.
-how to insult russians properly.

What I Can Share with Hosts

whatever i find.
