About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience new things, meet interesting people and have fun!

ABOUT ME

My name is Maria, I'm 25 and originally from Norway but I moved away when I was 18 to go and live other places. I haven't been super active on Couchsurfing because I lived with people who didn't want strangers to stay at our house, but this summer I'll be able to host more people hopefully.

I'm a pretty laidback girl who loves new people, new experiences, new opinions...anything different and exciting is fine by me! I like people (though not always), books, music, hanging out with my friends, cupcakes, singing (very poorly) in the shower.

I really want to get to know new people from all over the world and learn about their culture. Right now I'm just trying to surround myself with happy, positive people and lead a happy life :)

PHILOSOPHY

"Du må ikke skade andre, du må være grei og snill og for øvrig kan du gjøre som du vil." This is a sentence from a Norwegian children's book which roughly translated means "you must not hurt others, you must be kind and nice, and other than that, do as you please."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really want to travel around and sleep on people in other countries' couches.
Also, I really want to meet new people from all kinds of different places and have them sleep on my couch.

Right now I can't host I'm afraid, but check back in a couple of months!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted one really cool guy who I became good friends with and still talk to. I haven't surfed myself yet, but am looking forward to it!

Music, Movies, and Books

God, if I was to write down all my favourite movies, books and bands, I'd be here forever. Anyway, listing ultimate favourites of anything has always been problematic for me. But I'll mention five thingies of each category that are not necessarily my all-time favourite ones, but that I really like. So, movies. Wes Anderson is my all-time favourite director. Also Kevin Smith is good. I love Jim Jarmusch's stuff, especially Night on Earth & Permanent Vacation. And, to be honest. All the other ones. Apart from Dead Man. I just never really got it, to be honest. But anyway. I love films that are a little bit weird, like The Royal Tenenbaums and The Big Lebowski. I also love John Hughes movies from the eighties, they are just so awesome! Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, nothing makes me happier than that. I also really like dark comedies like Heathers, and awesome 90's stuff like Empire Records. And I very much like Sofia Coppola, particularly The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. That was more than five but whatever.

Regarding books, I would have to say my favourite book is probably The Catcher In The Rye. My all-time favourite author is probably Dickens I'd say, and I also really like Kate Chopin and P.G Wodehouse. I also really like Beatnik stuff like Howl, such a great book! I love a lot of the classics, I mean they're classics for a reason, right?

As for music, there's so much! To save time, I'll say I like all music apart from death metal and trance. But it's mostly rock to be honest. I love 60's-70's band like Hendrix, Led Zep, Bowie, Rolling Stones...I could go on but I won't. I listen to a lot of music from the 90's as well, grunge era. Nirvana, Garbage and Pearl Jam in particular but I'm not too picky. I also really like indie music and love Beck. I've been getting into riot grrrl lately as well, a lot of good stuff there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

High-fived Desmond Tutu.

Teach, Learn, Share

I really want to learn Spanish, and am learning on Babble right now. I'd love to get in touch with a Spanish speaker who could help me learn to speak conversational Spanish. I'm happy to return the favour and help you with English or Norwegian if you'd like to learn :)
