About Me

CURRENT MISSION

explore the rules and enjoy the game

ABOUT ME

fascinated by how what we are is not always the same as what we think... or is that always not the same...

Apart from that I'm happy to be alive!

PHILOSOPHY

Clear understanding is an illusion, it's fun getting clear then getting confused again and working back towards clarity.

Oh yes, and I accept massage.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

traveled a lot, still love it but do less. Happy to share my apartment from time to time. I work a lot of evenings and have my daughter with me half the time.

It helps me be an example of hospitality to her, and if you surf here when she's around you will be part of her education ;-)

What does hospitatlity mean to me. I want to offer a place where my guests can feel and be safe. After that comfortable, welcomed and wanted.

In Paris I get a lot of couch requests. Everyone and their dog wants to come here (but they leave the dog behind usually, poor Fido). It means I get to be discerning with whom I accept. I don't need party animals. Age is not an issue, unless you are young and thoughtless or old and thoughtless.

I'm far less likely to accept you if I think you are just another Paris tourist clone. Special interests and passions go a long way - I don't have to share them - just be curious about them.

Couchsurfing is reciprocal. I'm more likely to host you if I see you've done some hosting yourself, or atleast have some friends and references. If you send me a request from a profile with 3 views a few days before you're likely to arrive and I'll probably see you as an opportunist after free accommodation.

On the other side I want to use couchsurfing as a door to slip more deeply and swiftly into the local cultures of the places I visit.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted quite a few people here, and also been a guest of some great people in Iceland who have given me some ideas of the value of couchsurfing.

Here's something that pisses me off though. Universal awesomeness.

Don't leave someone a glowing reference unless you had a glowing time. References are so that other surfers don't get bad, or just average surprises.

Surf with me and hate it - say it - you owe it to the world! Hopefully that won't happen though!

I know it's sensitive but a lot of human activity turns around finding a mate. That applies to couchsurfing too. The cuties get more invitations, male or female. Invitations (and I'm not talking online anymore) are one thing - easy to accept or refuse.

Pressure is different - especially if you are away from home in a strange country. Someone pressures you don't give them a reference saying 's/he was nice' shop the bastard. That is English English for 'say what happened in no uncertain terms.'

Music, Movies, and Books

Mostly enjoy 'boy' films ...ridiculous unrealistic adventure. Occasionally dragged to see something sensitive, intelligent, well observed and have to admit that I enjoyed it.

Reading a lot of books on evolutionary psychology at the moment. Most of what I read is either applied science, interesting theory or escapist fantasy. I keep meaning to read classics and fill in some gaps in my education...I'm sure they are worth it.

I still enjoy the raw emotion of my teenage heavy metal and rock days, though now I'm a little more broad in my tastes. Deliberately broad. Sometimes a tune or a band will catch me and I will be hooked. I never know where that will come from so I keep my ears open.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

talked with unicorns, swum with mermaids. Yes I do have pictures of the mermaids.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach meditation, movement, martial arts (for the connoisseurs Bagua specifically) and how to eat, be slim and happy.

Would love to learn more about tracking, bushcraft, gymnastics and olympic lifts

Have a look at this and like it if you do
