About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meeting good people

ABOUT ME

I like to be relaxed/at peace/balanced and I think traveling helps with that. I like making friends, short or long term, it's still nice to know there's one more person in the world you can get on with. I've been around Europe, some Greek islands, a few cities in Australia, Malaysia, Thailand. I also went on a trip to switzerland to see some friends and tried skiing for the first time! I have lived in Sheffield- my favourite city in the UK and then Vietnam for almost a year- my favourite life experience so far.

Manchester will always be my home but i am currently living and working in Hathersage int he peak district as a hostel Manager.

PHILOSOPHY

for trying new things- go for it.
for things that happen to you- expect nothing and accept everything.
and for life, try to enjoy it (not too hard, otherwise you wont)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have done some hosting.
I couldn't in Vietnam, although i did spend my days off with visitors showing them the best parts of the island, or just hanging out chatting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

the couches i crash happen randomly and sporadically. Most not even through couch surfing

...but now thanks to the awesome people in the brisbane couch surfing community and some back home in Manchester I have attended;

-film/meet ups
-a byo international bbq meet up (i brought greek yogurt)
-an awesome party where I crashed my first cs couch!
-a Manchester meet up with some lovely people
-a Sheffield meet up with some more lovely people!
-regular climbing with sheffield cs'ers

Interests

i like good food, and trying new things. Making friends meeting, new people. Climbing has become a constant in my life now. i like to read a lot but can't take too many books when travelling as they take up some space, so big fan of book swaps. I'm also quite environmentally conscious and enjoy volunteering with certain 'green' initiatives- lots more time to do this since i quit my office job!
I help run clothes swaps and the like.
I always plan on getting back into cycling- who knows this could be the year.
I definitely got back into cycling and cycled to Bath (from Manchester) and cycle every day and plan to cycle to the Greece over the winter of 2019!

Music, Movies, and Books

ok i basically left these space as 'LOADS' since i first made my profile and now one year later ive decided to fill it out...i went off on one i think :p

I love fantasy, classical, Sci-fi and the really surreal shit that doesnt try to hard- that's as a main base but I branch out into anything that takes my fancy. so yeah i like LOTR and HP even though they're not my favorite i will read them. but ive also read the farseer trilogy/hexolagy/enyalogy... basically i've read three of the robin hobb trilogies. BUT i also love classics and ancient history so have read LOADS of Conn ingulden-however you spell it. love the emperor/Rome collection and stuff on Alexander the great, Ghengis khan. (also if you can find a good rts where you can play as these characters im on it. so yeah bit of a geek. as for sci-fi there's BSG, Star wars, and so on. I also read a really cool series that managed to combine both sci-fi and fantasy called the many colored land- check it out. some other books that fall into vague or other are cloud atlas, stone junction, to kill a mockingbird, hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, kafka on the shore, monsterblood trilogy and i know iv'e said fantasy but i plan to get through every dragonlance book at some point. Neil Gaiman is my new favourite.

As for films i cant think of my favorite of all time so going to go with a random collection- the fountain, usual suspects, fitz coraldo, city of god, momento, hellboy 2, fight club, back to the future, fargo, thank you for smoking annnd more later

music for now im just going to say ambient, chilled or feel good cos that's what i like when i travel.

i also like animation stuff- if you're someone who discards 'cartoons' as soon as thinking of them i would love to change your mind- from samurai jack to Invader Zim for series and from Princess mononoke to Wall-e for films. there lessons range from laughing at the small things to how one should view the world.

oh i play a lot of games when i can then go through periods of not at all. No football or 'rail tycoon' ones though. usually ones that fit in with the books and films i like.

I am also open to experiencing new spiritual/meditational experiences so if you would like to teach/practise i am up for it.

...that's me being honest, hope it doesn't put anyone off :p

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed a mountain, sat under a waterfall.

Teach, Learn, Share

i have a harmonica in the bottom of my bag that i can play one tune on- i would love to jam/get taught by someone on my travels.
i can cook moderately well and like cooking with other people.
