About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To balance the seriousness of my work with my love of being silly and ridiculous.

ABOUT ME

Once in an ad for a roommate I wrote that I love punk rock but wear birkenstocks. This is still kind of true only now I just wear flip flops after one of my nice and closest friends told me I wasn't allowed to wear birkenstocks any more especially with socks.

I'm a new midwife and love helping women give birth. It is the most fantastic feeling in the world helping an emerging being transition into life! Before midwifery, I was and still am a nurse practitioner (advance practice nurse) at Planned Parenthood, a reproductive health clinic for men and women. I'm an expert on STIs and contraception!

I'm originally from Northern New Hampshire but moved to Salt Lake City, Utah 5 years ago for my job, larger mountains and more snow! I ski patrol at Park City Mountain Resort on the weekends. For those of you who don't ski, it is the medical response team for injured guests. I also enjoy riding my bike around to my friends' houses for dinner and wine or to the pub for beers on Friday.

PHILOSOPHY

To live a determined life while laughing. To be conscious of the decisions I make and the impact it has on a global level. To support communities and people not corporations. But in the end I'd want to try harder not to be too mental or rational..this one is a work in progress. To learn to follow my heart! I love learning new skills that make me more self-sufficient.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My friend and former roommate/landlord Johnny spent 6 weeks traveling through Paris/Spain, Morocco then over to Egypt & Israel! We were able to couch surf in Paris, Tel-Aviv and Cape Town! I've also now hosted a few times and I enjoy showing people around and learning new things.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I just surfed three different couches except 2 of the 3 hosts offered my own private bedroom and the 3rd gave up his bed for 1 of the two nights! I just hosted an Italian that made Pizza from scratch in my kitchen. I think he wins so far but really everyone I've hosted has been a good time in incredibly different ways!

Interests

Skiing first and foremost. It is a love affair and Utah has my heart.

Rocking out second. Rock & Roll especially Punk Rock. I really wish I could shred.

Yoga! If I don't exercise, I get grumpy and restless.

Knitting in the winter. I make some killer hats. Socializing. Cooking. Actually, teaching men to cook is a recent hobby I've picked up here in Lesotho. Drinking wine and discussing philosophy with friends. Reading, especially non-fiction about global health or anarchist ideologies. Riding my bike as a mode of transportation not especially for exercise but it it's a nice benefit.

I have recently come to terms with the fact that unfortunately I love school and working. I have a strange desire to learn everything although realistically I know my desire to socialize will happily get in the way of meeting this goal.

Music, Movies, and Books

As above PUNK ROCK Yeah but also indie rock, metal and some folk for mellow times. I love shredding guitar. My top favorite bands: Radiohead, Bad Religion, Bright Eyes, Against Me, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, Street Dogs, The Thermals, Yes, Dream Theatre, Manic Street Preachers, Gogol Bordello, Cut Copy, The Flaming Lips..etc

There is much time for reading when your power is dependent on solar energy. I love reading about anarchism and hope to figure out how NGOs can better work to improve the status of women by strengthening communities.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

attending women in labor and helping catch their babies...i don't think anything can top it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Health topics especially reproductive health, birth, Sex, STIs, and contraception (ie birth control).

Can teach knitting, cooking and yoga. Am learning yoga from my Yogini roommate and best friend and have taught prenatal yoga to ladies in rural africa.

I'd love to learn a language fluently. I most desire to learn French.
I also want to learn woodworking and an instrument.
