About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel and experience the different cultures in Colombia,

ABOUT ME

I am an adventurous retired music teacher who loves to travel and experience different cultures. I recently moved to Bogota to help local English teachers in Christian schools. I like to listen and talk with people about different ideas and topics. I respect other peoples opinions and enjoy learning new things. My personality is friendly, positive and I love to have fun and enjoy life.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe God has a purpose for each of us here on earth. We are called to love and serve our fellow man, promote peace and understanding and try to make the world a better place to live. Being active in charity and mission groups helps me believe I am making a difference in peoples lives. My genuine purpose is to show and share the love of Jesus and have my life reflect Biblical truths.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to participate by staying in people's homes and getting to know them and their community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with fellow couch surfers in my travels to Ecuador, Peru and Argentina. Most of these experiences were positive.I look forward to meeting new people as I travel and am invited into their homes. In the future I plan to open my house to travelers.

Interests

I enjoy being active but also like having quiet time to read and meditate. As a retired senior citizen, I want to become proactive in causes I believe in: literacy, poverty eradication and educational programs for children. My hobbies include photography, gardening, cooking, playing and listening to music, hiking and appreciating nature, exploring art and history museums and attending cultural events, theater and live music concerts. I am very interested in learning about different country's indigenous people-their customs, crafts and lifestyle.

Music, Movies, and Books

My musical tastes are quite varied (classical, jazz, R&B, Christian, pop, folk, salsa) but I don't appreciate rock, heavy metal or rap music. I enjoy reading classical literature, biographies, historical fiction, Christian novels, mysteries, Christian and crime fiction novels. I haven't had a TV for three years but like watching a movies that have meaning and moral purity.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'd have to say my most recent amazing feat was going on the zip line (canopy tour)in Monteverde, Costa Rica. I loved the rush I felt as I zipped across the cloud forests suspended on a cable. The scenery was breathtaking when I was able to look! My children and traveling companions were impressed that I was brave enough to do this at my age.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my culinary skills and want to learn how to prepare typical food from the countries I visit.
I love to share my Christian and American music and am interested in instruments, songs, dance styles and rhythms that are native to places where I visit.
I can talk about popular American authors and would be interested in learning about famous authors, poets and artists in different countries.
I know how to grow plants and flowers and want to learn about the flora and fauna (animals) in other countries.
I am an English teacher so I have interest and experience in helping people learn and improve their English skills. I'd appreciate help in improving my Spanish. CONVERSATION IS THE KEY!
