About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to go back to Brazil, make lasting friendships and professional relationships, and parade with Estacao Primeira de Mangueira for Carnaval. Nossa Mangueira!

ABOUT ME

I wouldn't even know where to start. I'm a lot of things to a lot of people, and I don't want to spend a whole lot of time going down the list. I like to believe that I'm interesting enough for people to want to hear about me instead of read about me. You're totally free to ask me whatever you like, but of course, within respectable boundaries. I'm more of a broad than a lady, but the lady part does count for something!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that the longer I live, the more life continues to amaze me. Life is truly a phenomenal experience that is not to be taken for granted, so even though a person should make cautious decisions, we shouldn't be so careful that we miss out on the excitement that life has to offer us. If you treat yourself and others well and with love, there is definitely more happiness awaiting you than sadness. That's become my mantra.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm gonna be honest, folks. I'm about the best Chicago tour guide you can ever hope to find on public transportation, but unless you want to share space in a small studio with me and two cats nicknamed Paws and Jaws (real names Alfredo and Cazuza), then surfing with me is not the greatest idea. However, if you would like to partake in a good vegetarian meal or two in my humble space, I'm totally good for it. There's a grocery store in my building and we can pop downstairs, grab the needed ingredients, and make something tasty happen in my kitchen. Of course, we can wash it all down with some Ethiopian coffee. I know, I drive a hard bargain.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am definitely a couch surfing novice, but my first time was in Sao Paulo with my friend, Bia and her family. It was the best experience of my life! Of course, it helped that I already knew her beforehand, but I don't think that Brazilian hospitality will fail me anywhere. I felt right at home wherever I went, and I can't wait to go back!

Interests

I am interested in lots of stuff, really, but the love of my life is music. I have more Brazilian music on rotation than anything else, especially samba, but I also love old school soul music, most Latin American music, and I'm a HUGE Luis Miguel fan. Notice that "HUGE" is in all caps.

I also like lively and constructive conversations about religion, politics, and social issues. It's cool when people know how to agree to disagree like respectful adults.

Oh yeah, and I really enjoy cooking, and if I stay with you, I'll be more than happy to prepare a meal or two (or more, depending on how nice you are to me, wink, wink!)

I have a few guilty pleasures, but I'll just talk about two of them: WWE Wrestling and the Maury Povich show. I love watching people pound the hell out of each other in a fake storyline and I love watching the paternity test and lie detector test results shows. I know, it's sooo trashy, but it's soooo good!!!

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh boy, I watch too many movies and read too many books to list them here. Music is my life, so unless it's country&western music, death metal, or Britney Spears-esque music, I've got appreciation for it. Again, another conversation that is better to have in person.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to Sao Paulo for the first time was amazing for me. I never thought that I would be capable of making an international trip of that caliber alone, and I amazed myself by doing it. It's made me totally fearless, and I feel like I can take on the world now. Oh, and seeing Mt. Everest and the Taj Mahal when I was 11 was also pretty high on the awesometer.

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak Spanish fluently and have worked as a teacher of English as a second language, and I would welcome the opportunity to do it again in another country. I am improving my Portuguese skills, and if I end up on the other side of the Atlantic outside of Portugal, then I won't mind sharing a bit of this knowledge, too. Oh, and if you've never had Ethiopian food before, I will show you what you didn't know your life had been missing!
