About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I am driven by a profound desire to know and understand this unlikely world we live in. My favourite thing about travelling is experiencing different things; different people, with different lifestyles, different social customs, different languages, different foods on the supermarket shelves.

I am open-minded and easy-going, sometimes to a fault. I prefer to say yes than to say no, and I am always curious what life will throw my way!

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live my life in a sensitive and sensible way. I rely on rational thinking to justify my beliefs, but I also enjoy musing about the endless unknown possibilities of the universe. I value my own self-fulfillment, the well-being of others, the environment, and the pursuit of knowledge, and I also enjoy music and other art, physical activity, humour, and other whimsical pursuits. Who doesn't!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have travelled to a few different parts of the world, and have done some surfing here and there. To me the most important thing about CS is meeting new people in the places I visit. I've gone on various trips and outings organized through CS, and I when I'm travelling I try to attend as many gatherings as possible. I have also hosted a few travellers in my homeland: PEI.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met so many lovely people through couchsurfing, including travellers and hosts from all over. One of my earliest couchsurfing experiences was a trip to the Tongariro alpine crossing in New Zealand, and after that I was hooked.

Since then I have made friends that kept me coming back to the "most boring city in NZ"; gone rock climbing, hiking, snorkelling, dancing, and singing karaoke; volunteered at an orphanage; gone digging for clams, enjoyed sunrises and sunsets; and shared many lovely moments just sharing food and conversation with interesting people.

Although I have concerns about the changes that have occurred with CS in recent years, I still embrace it as a forum to meet interesting people and create interesting experiences together.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

11 days hiking around Stewart Island in New Zealand with my sister. I've never spent so much time hiking before or since, and it was amazing to just wake up each day and walk somewhere new. And we saw a kiwi bird!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love talking about physics, especially with non-physics people. I also like philosophical conversations, and discussing the ideas of scientific thinking. I know a bit about computers and stuff like that too. And orienteering, I'd love to spread the word about orienteering. I'd like to learn more about preparing different types of food from different places; I can cook a bit but I'd like to do more of it.
