Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

New to this site but intrigued, hope to host in the future.

Have hosted HS exchange students in the past from Edinburgh, Scotland and enjoyed it, even when a small evening get together of four turned into the entire entourage of 40!

As a 30 year resident of the Mid Hudson Valley of NY, I am quite willing to share my knowledge of where to go and what to see.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Did a lot of CSing and hosting CSers in 'the college days' before the internet age, or even cellphones for that matter.

A treasured memory: When greeting one of the above Edinburgh students after his long journey, we asked, "Are you hungry?" Response: "I'm so hungry, me stomach thinks me throat is cut." ..........the same thing my great uncle from Glasgow always said when visiting us. :-)

Interests

Hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, historical sites.

Music, Movies, and Books

Travels With Charlie in Search of America-John Steinbeck
"When I was very young and the urge to be someplace else was upon me, I was assured by mature people that maturity would cure this itch. When years described me as mature, the remedy prescribed was middle age. In middle age I was assured that greater age would calm my fever, and now that I am fifty eight, perhaps senility will do the job"
(PS: I first read this book when I was 17 years old....it still applies...DJR)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Chased a rainbow for OVER AN HOUR, with the late afternoon sun at my back and a storm moving ahead of me in the same direction (east). It was awesome............ I never did find the pot-of-gold, though. Perhaps, I already had it!
