CURRENT MISSION

Filling my life with more love. Love of people, love of things I do, love of knowledge, love of loving.

ABOUT ME

http://instagram.com/mma323

Hi, I'm Masa. I believe my life is my art (your life is your art too) and I value things like freedom, love, and beauty.

Curiosity is what drives my life and among other amazing things in life, I’m keen on martial arts (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Submission Wrestling and Judo), music, dancing (Argentine Tango), philosophy (the analytic kind), understanding the male-female dynamics and eating & cooking food. I’m interested in thinking and writing about creativity, curiosity, love, relationship and authenticity.

My perspective has been influenced and shaped by the following:
* Listening to punk rock and applying the punk rock way of thinking to my life
* Living in Australia for a long time as an international student
* Studying philosophy at university
* Practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo
* Learning what it takes to be an attractive man and taking action about it

So, this is me.

The easiest term to describe my life/travel style is "digital nomad". I really don't like this term, but you get the idea.

PHILOSOPHY

My life is my art. I'm creating it for myself and to share what I learnt through the process of creating it with others.

I'm a positive&optimistic person with some logical thoughts behind it. After all, there are things we can't control and it's silly to worry about them. Instead of focusing my energy and resources on such uncontrollable things, I focus on what matters, control what I can control (i.e. myself and what I do), and choose to live for excellence.

(By the way, I wish this section wasn't named "Personal Philosophy" - the reason why I feel this way is because I'm interested in philosophy as an age-old academic discipline and believe that the sense of 'philosophy' as used in this category doesn't really match with philosophy as an academic discipline. This usage can create some misconceptions about philosophy as an academic discipline and its general practice.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A dear friend of mine whom I was once in a relationship with was a couchsurfer. She was the first person to introduce me to couchsurfing. That's how I got started with couchsurfing.

During my world travel, I've used couchsurfing to meet locals, and I continue to do so.

These days I'm using CS mostly to meet new people in new places. I enjoy organizing impromptu gatherings as a way of bringing people together.

Interests

At the core, I think I'm interested in how to live a good life, how to be a good man, and how to help others live a good life.

What I do and enjoy doing reflects these basic interests of mine.

OR.

Maybe I just want to have fun and help you have fun. Maybe that's all.

Music, Movies, and Books

[Music]
I used to listen to 80's and 90's punk & hardcore punk bands a lot (like Bad Religion, Millencolin, Gorilla Biscuits, Bane, One Last Wish, Rites of Spring, etc.).

These days I listen to anything and everything. If you have good recommendations, I'll probably give them a go and see if I like them or not. Tell me about your favorite music!

[Movies]
I hardly watch movies, though I appreciate good movies. If you ask me about my favorite movies, I'm likely to say Richard Linklater's "Before" trilogy. When I traveled to Vienna from Budapest by train, I was hoping to run into my dream woman like in Before Sunrise, but it didn't happen unfortunately.

[Books]
These days I have most of my books in a digital format (I use kindle).

One physical book I carry with me is Marcus Aurelius's Meditations.

“I was once a fortunate man but at some point fortune abandoned me.
But true good fortune is what you make for yourself. Good fortune: good character, good intentions, and good actions.”

- Marcus Aurelius

On that note ...

Don’t forget to take care of your body and mind.

Move your body.

Feed your body (and avoid putting garbage into your system as much as possible).

Rest your body ( = sleep well).

The same goes to your mind as well.

Think more (and more critically), consider different perspectives, read, write, and create (even just for yourself).

One of the toughest addictions almost all of us have is the urge to be (or rather feel) right every time.

Let that go as much as possible, and that can help you understand different perspectives that other people have.

No need to be perfectly good. Just try and do it consistently.

Build your fortune.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think it's amazing that I'm living my life the way I'm living it.

It's really hard to pinpoint just one thing though.

It's more like a whole series of things rather than one thing, but I've been traveling around the world extensively since 2012, and visiting different Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms in different countries.

This is how I like to travel.

I may not necessarily visit major sightseeing sites, but I wrestle with locals and expats wherever I go, and I become friends with them.

And this has become a part of my travel routines.

I don't know if you think this is amazing, but I think it's amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you a fundamental set of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques.

You won't be able to learn how to defend yourself from potential aggressors just by learning these techniques in 1 hour, but you will be able to see what you might be able to do if you keep learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy cooking for others :-)
