About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get out, get going

ABOUT ME

I'm an easy going girl who grew up on a farm in rural, NH USA. I teach math to students in grades 9 - 12. A huge part of my classroom is relating our learning to the world around us and getting out and learning in hands on ways.

My last big trip was 12 months of international research on wool and fiber traditions across the globe (July 2011-July 2012). I started in Iceland then flew to Germany and took a 34 hr bus to Romania. I traveled the rest of Eastern Europe before making my way through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Oceania was next, then up to China, Mongolia, the Trans Siberian, Finland, back to Iceland and home.

My husband (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/quasigroup) and I have just finished up a year living in Bhutan and traveling around India. The journey home is going to be quite an adventure- I can't wait!

PHILOSOPHY

People will show you their best if you let them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Throughout my experiences traveling in the past, I've surfed, gone to meetups, and had great interactions with local CSers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My best CS experience was when I met my friend Arto in Helsinki Finland, who ended up hosting me and two of my friends at his family's summer cottage. We saunaed and swam in the lake, cooked pancakes, chatted about life. It was relaxed and a far more exciting time than I had ever imagined I'd have in Finland.

Interests

I'm a huge reader, explorer, and walker. Being out in nature, talking with friends, doing some math or being in the laboratory, I'm constantly curious, and right now my curiosity is being channeled into a graduate degree in organic chemistry.

Music, Movies, and Books

A few favorite books? Water for Elephants, The Devil in the White City, Daughter of Fortune, The Kite Runner.

Music is a bit of everything, but I have a major soft spot for big band/jazz.

Not a tremendous movie-watcher, but I'll watch anything but horror. I tend to scream like a little girl (even when the scary parts are supposed to be funny!). A goal for the near future is going to a drive in movie!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got lost in the jungle in India with some friends and ended up hiking into the night to try and find our way out. We hopped walls, wandered into peoles' yards and walked through a herd of water buffalo.

I've been lost in the Westfjords of Iceland, skinny dipping in Vietnam, danced in the middle of the jungle at a Red Dzao wedding.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to spin or knit, to fold interesting envelopes, or how some organic chemistry mechanisms work.

I'd like to learn how to cook more non-American food (current passion: Persian), I always want to hear about what people love to read, and I am dying to learn to beat box.

Let's share a meal, stories, an adventure.
