About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Don't hold back. Carpe diem.

ABOUT ME

Things I unquestionably rule at:

Squeezing the very last bit out of a tube of toothpaste.

Traversing steep slopes, but of an angle no greater than 64°.

Flat-pack self-assembly (pfft, like those left-over screws and hinge-brackets were even necessary - I've improved the design!).

Drinking from a 2-litre bottle while holding it away from me so that my lips aren't touching the mouth of the bottle (suffered many a soaking in my quest to perfect this skill).

Funding terrorism by pirating mp3s - YARRR!

Compiling lists, see also: my top ten best band names; top five Baldwin brothers; list of top five top-five lists.

I am rarely bored or listless, I'm inquisitive and find there isn't enough time to catch up on everything I'm interested in.

Stuff I certainly struggle with:

Touching my toes when I'm stretching.

Mental arithmetic and spelling out loud.

Banter.

Making eye contact with those I fear or fancy.

Remembering a joke in order, so that the punchline actually makes sense.

Going to bed at a reasonable hour.

Living up to expectations.

Using my super powers for good and not evil.

Digging shallow graves...it still has to be a foot or two deep and with poor soil on a cold November's night, you have your work cut out.

Making lists about myself, with the intention of portraying myself in a positive light rather than some creepy internet weirdo.

PHILOSOPHY

I firmly believe I must be honest, with others, and most importantly, with myself.

Listen to my intuition rather than second-guessing myself and worrying what others would think.
And make plenty of mistakes, experience comes from doing and intuition is based largely on one's experience.

Live life at a slower pace, otherwise I miss out on a lot of the fun and possibilities, whilst hurrying from A to B.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have attended Cork CS weekly/monthly meetings since the Jan. 2011. Highlights include a pizza pot-luck party in Kinsale and a BBQ in nearby Belgooly.

Even if I cannot always host, it's fun to show people around my city and meet fellow adventurers :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In 2011, from April to August, I traveled around Europe, visiting 48 cities in 15 different countries and going on mad, unplanned adventures, including hiking in the Bieszczady mountains, and drinking vodka until 7am at a Polish wedding!
I met so many wonderful people on my travels, and kept in touch with many, some have come to visit me in Ireland.
Overall, it was a wonderful, inspiring experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I did a mountain skills navigation course recently, which involved navigating to precise features in fog and at night, using just a map and compass.
Maybe I can teach you some map reading skills or some tips on remote emergency care first aid.
I'm also quite adept at IT troubleshooting.
