About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finding adventures and enriching experiences

ABOUT ME

What’s up everyone. My name is Juan and I am a 32 year old Latino living in Brooklyn, NY & working in New Jersey. I’ve been lucky enough in my life time to travel around to some amazing places and meet some equally amazing people. A couple of summers ago I spent backpacking through South America with a really good friend of mine. Needless to say the experience was amazing. The generosity of the couch surfers that we stayed with throughout the continent was amazing and I would like to return the favor in any way that I can. As a proud born and raised NY’er, I take pride in showing people my town whether that comes in the form or music, the arts, parks, or the nightlife. As of know I have a hectic schedule between working full time and school but I would be more than happy to meet up with you for coffee, some drinks, dinner, or to check some stuff out. I’m mostly free in the evenings after work and anytime on the weekend. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and happy surfing!

PHILOSOPHY

There is a song out there for every emotion that you’ve ever felt. That and Hakuna Matata. It means no worries, for the rest of your days.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Nada. I'm trying to change that by surfing and hosting when I get back from my back packing trip this summer.

Interests

Sports (big boxing and baseball fan. Casual American football and Mexican soccer)

Music: American oldies, reggae, punk, jazz, rock en espanol, world. I give everything a chance

Food: I have a pretty open mind about what I eat. Brooklyn has food from every part of the world. I’ll try a lot of things as long as it’s not ridiculously crazy. I’m pretty familiar with Latin American cuisine. Oh yea. I really like hot sauce.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Just to name a few: The Clash, The Beatles, Los Fabulosos Cadilacs, The Bad Brains, Manu Chao, Django Reinhardt, Social Distortion, Eddie Cochran, Bob Marley, X.

Movies: Movies: City of God, The Sandlot (childhood favorite), Training Day, True Romance, The Big Lewbowski, Anchorman, A Bronx Tale, documentaries, yada yada yada.

Books:

Current: "Barcardi and the long fight for Cuba". It's a book about the 150 year history between the Barcardi company and Cuba. Most people think that Barcardi is a Puerto Rican rum....tisk tisk. Don Facundo Barcardi Masso would be muy triste.

All time: Las Mil y una Historias de Radio Venceremos or Don Quixote.

Up next: Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and fall of Jack Johnson.

Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mark Kurlanski, Primo Levi, Sedaris, to name of few.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some English, play guitar, play baseball, whatever you want. :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay
