About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have an awesome day every day, and to be completely surrounded by music at all times.

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty worldly and curious person, a bit reserved at first, but I like to think I'm pretty friendly and spontaneous. One of my favorite things to do is do, see or hear of things I've never hear of or thought about before. I feel my goal as a composer and performer is to express a vision of reality as I experience it, and thus am constantly striving to see the world through as many other people's eyes as possible.
I was raised LDS (aka Mormon) but left when I was 14, and am always curious to hear about the many, varried and unusual forms of religious or spiritual experiences.

PHILOSOPHY

'Live and let live, that's my motto. Anyone who can't live with that, take'em outside and shoot the motherfucker.'

OK, only kidding, that's from a Carlin routine. I believe that interpersonal connections are the most important and exciting thing in life and I'd like to have a lot of them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've surfed a few times around some of the big cities in the US, but it's inevitably a great experience; the people you meet and the things you see through them are simply unmatched by any other means of travel. I've stayed with a married couple with two kids and a nice house, and in a communal home run by members of a local co-op, and no matter how wildly different the circumstances, the people are always awesome.

Interests

MUSIC mostly, as well as linguistics, psychology and cultural studies. I hope to compose and perform music reflecting the influences of all the diverse place I couchsurf to :). I would love to be involved politically, but who has time? (I know, I'm the worst). I try very hard to hold skeptical moral positions that are consistent with a regard for human dignity.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music... Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, of course, but also the modern Masters: Carter, Schnittke, Boulez, Stockhausen, Grisey, Murail, Hurel, Rzewski,

Books... Rushdie, Vonnegut, Marquez, Mann, Eco Atwood, Arthur C. Clarke, Frank Herbert, Friederich Nietzsche, Chinua Achebe, J.D. Sallinger, Douglas Adams

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Listened to the Adhan (muslim call to prayer) echoing through a canyon while sitting in a cave in a cliff face;
Played a concerto for piano orchestra and trippy lights,;
Played a piece for toy piano and screaming/singing pianist;
Cave-tubed in Belize and Ziplined (ziplone?) through the mountainous jungles of Honduras!

Teach, Learn, Share

Any amount of knowledge relating to music or playing the piano! I am a vast repository of useless knowledge on composers and composition, instruments and instrumentation, and I can probably name or play any classical piece you've ever heard in a commercial or soap opera.

I am also very politically and socially opinionated, and would be glad to share my views with anyone who will listen :) I love to agree with people as much as I like to argue with them.
